California Scholarships

Some states or counties have hundreds of scholarships for which you may qualify.

Jacob Rassen Memorial Scholarship

General Purpose: To provide annual scholarship to Jewish boys or girls under age 22 for an Israel study trip. Criteria: Jewish; financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma counties. Age Limitations: 22 or younger.

Lillian Fried Scholarship Fund

General Purpose: To provide scholarships for deserving women to pursue collegiate or graduate studies. Criteria: Jewish; financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma Counties.

Miriam S. Grunfeld Scholarship Fund

General Purpose: To provide annual grants to educate young people who otherwise would not be able to fulfill their educational aspirations. Criteria: Jewish; financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma counties. Age Limitations: 26 or younger.

Rozsi and Jeno Zisovich Jewish Studies Scholarship

General Purpose: To provide scholarships to help Jewish or non-Jewish students who hope to pursue careers which will include teaching the Holocaust to future generations to pursue collegiate and/or graduate studies in Holocaust education. Criteria: Financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma counties.

Stanley Olson Youth Scholarship

General Purpose: Scholarship to assist Jewish youth in attending graduate or undergraduate school; preference given for studies in Liberal Arts. Criteria: Jewish; financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma counties. Age Limitations: 26 or younger.

Vivienne S. Camp College Scholarship Fund

General Purpose: To provide annual college or vocational school scholarships to two young Jewish men and two young Jewish women attending an institution in California who demonstrate academic achievement, promise, and financial need. Geographic Limitations: San Francisco, San Mateo, northern Santa Clara, Marin and Sonoma Counties.

Cesar Chavez Memorial Education Awards

One student or a group of no more than five (5) students (K-Community College) in conjunction with a CTA member. Grade level categories include: * Kindergarten - Second grade * Third - Fifth grades * Sixth - Eighth grades * Ninth - Twelfth grades * Community College

THE EARNEST SCHOLARSHIP

At Earnest, we believe the fundamental role of lenders is to help people realize their hopes and dreams. And since our founding in 2013, we’ve combined better data, design, and service to bring people a fast, affordable, and personalized financial experience. We know how confusing and expensive education financing can be, so we’ve created a scholarship to award five undergraduate students who best articulate how their college education will enable their dreams.

KASF Scholarship - Western Regional Chapter

A Korean student currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program is qualified to apply. Applicants are judged on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service. .Applicants from the Western Region must attend a school in either: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, or New Mexico. Qualifications: Undergraduate, graduate, and high school students enrolled full time during the scholarship application year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students with a Korean heritage studying in the United States regardless of citizenship status (including Korean Nationals). If extra funds are available, other students (non-Korean) may qualify for some scholarships.

Italian American Lawyers Association Scholarship

The scholarships will be awarded on academic achievement, potential contribution to the Italian-American Community with some consideration to financial need. The selection will be based upon the quality of the applicants received each year. All information received by the Association will be verified to the extent possible, i.e., with the law school registrar.

Helen Johnson Scholarship

The Helen Johnson Scholarship is for broadcast journalism students. 1. You must provide proof that you are enrolled or have been accepted as a journalism major at a four-year college. (If your college does not have a journalism program, you must supply a letter from a member in good standing of the Society of Professional Journalists in your geographic area, verifying that you intend to pursue a career as a professional journalist and that you show strong potential as a journalist.) Students in fields such as advertising, public relations, publicity or law are not eligible. Students completing pre-journalism programs must provide proof that they have been admitted to a journalism program. 2. You must have completed at least your sophomore year in college, and you must have at least one semester to complete in a journalism program after the awards of the scholarship. Graduate students in journalism programs are eligible. 3. You must be a resident of Los Angeles, Ventura or Orange counties or be enrolled at a university in one of those three California counties. 4. If you have received a chapter scholarship and continue to meet the eligibility requirements, you may apply to have the scholarship renewed. Renewal requests are considered along with all other scholarships applications and are given no preference. 5. You may apply for more than one scholarship, but no more than one scholarship will be awarded to any applicant. The application form allows you to check off all scholarships for which you are applying on a single page. Do not file separate application forms for each scholarship. Multiple applications will be discarded. 6. Awards are made primarily on the basis of accomplishments and potential. Financial need will be considered in making selections between otherwise equally qualified applicants.

Carl Greenberg Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a college student pursuing investigative or political reporting. Carl Greenberg was a political reporter at the Los Angeles Times, famed for being singled out by Richard Nixon as the only reporter who covered him “fairly.” ($1,000). The Carl Greenberg Scholarship is for students who are pursuing a career in investigative or political reporting. 1. You must provide proof that you are enrolled or have been accepted as a journalism major at a four-year college.
