North Carolina Scholarships

Eligibility Employees of the club as of the date of award, in at least a 2nd season of employment and a senior in a high school or a secondary school graduate Selection Criteria Primary criteria for awarding the scholarship are the student’s academic achievement/potential and the student’s financial need. Important to the process of selection are character, community service, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, and work experience. Amount One-time $1,000 Number of Awards Up to Two awards Eligibility Residents of the 18 westernmost counties who are graduating seniors of a WNC public or private high school or certified home school, and who are relatives of active duty, decorated Vietnam Veterans. Selection Criteria Sponsor: Decoration Proof of Sponsor: Vietnam service medal or ribbon (photocopy OK) Military Proof of Sponsor: DD214 * Student: High School diploma or equivalent, in award year Demonstrated financial need Sound academic performance Plans to enroll full-time in college or university, in award year * If you need assistance obtaining a DD214 for your relative’s service, contact the Veterans Administration regional office by calling 1-800-827-1000. Eligibility Graduate or graduating senior of Asheville High School who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in film, video production, visual or performing arts. Amount $2,500 renewable for 3 more years Number of Awards Up to Two Awards Eligibility Graduating seniors from Charles D. Owen, Madison, or McDowell High Schools and planning to attend North Carolina State University or the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Amount $2,500 renewable for 2 more years Number of Awards Up to Two Awards Eligibility Applicants must be graduates of Western North Carolina's Charles D. Owen High School, Madison High School, or McDowell High School, and currently attending North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine or the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, and engaged in a course of study leading to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, with a strong preference for students with demonstrated interest in working with large animals. Amount One-time up to $5,000 Number of Awards Up to Five Awards Eligibility Current permanent or seasonal employees of Highlands Falls Country Club or Highlands Falls Community Association, or a contract employee working full-time, an average of 30 or more hours per week. Selection Criteria Financial need and academic achievement/potential are the primary criteria for these scholarships. Amount One-time $500 Number of Awards One Award Eligibility Qualified employees, spouses of employees and children of employees of Pathologist's Medical Laboratory and Mission Hospitals Laboratories. Reynolds (2016), Asheville High (2017), C.A. Erwin (2018), C.D. Owen (2019), Enka (2020), and North Buncombe (2021).
