C.G. Avent, Jr. and Amelia P. Avent Memorial Scholarship

Created in loving memory of C.G. Avent, Jr., and Amelia P. Avent to honor their contributions to the education of our youth. Awarded annually to a deserving student who could not otherwise attend college and who will attend either Fayetteville State University (Fayetteville, NC) or Johnson C. Smith University (Charlotte, NC). To qualify you must meet the: General Eligibility Criteria * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need Students with financial need will have priority.

Belk/Dorothy A. Howard Scholarship

General Eligibility Criteria * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need You must be a female planning to major in education or an education-related field at a North Carolina university or college. Financial need is considered in selection. Competitive applicants have strong academic records and religious affiliations.

Reverend Henry Hudson Bobbitt Scholarship

Annual award created in loving memory of Reverend Henry Hudson Bobbitt to make college education accessible to members of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC. Students will be selected based on financial need, academic achievement and citizenship. General Eligibility Criteria: * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need Be an active member in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC. Students with financial need will have priority.

Anthony G. Chavonne Scholarship

This award was created in honor of the employees of The Fayetteville Observer to make a college education accessible to the children and grandchildren of employees of The Fayetteville Observer. To qualify for this award you must: * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need * Have parents or grandparents who are employed by The Fayetteville Publishing Company at the time of application.

William W. Crowell Scholarship

For students of families engaged in the fields of engineering or construction from eastern North Carolina who are entering institutions of higher learning to study any field. General Eligibility Criteria: * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need * Live in eastern North Carolina and have a parent employed in construction or engineering. Financial need is considered in selection.

Cumberland Retired School Personnel Scholarship

To qualify for this award you must be a rising college sophomore, junior, or senior, enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning in North Carolina, and majoring in any field of study. Students from Cumberland County will be given priority.

Ella Smith Downing Charitable Scholarship

Created in loving memory of Ella Smith Downing (1915-2005) for needy students to attend college. Renewable: 5 awards of $3,000 each

Ellis-Walker Builders, Inc. Scholarship

General Eligibility Criteria: * Resident of eastern North Carolina * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need Pursue a degree in the field of engineering and have a family member engaged in the field of engineering or construction.

Fayetteville Firefighters Scholarship Endowment

Renewable on equal footing with other applicants; Renewal applicant must complete a full application. Created to help active uniform Fayetteville firefighters by providing educational scholarships. To qualify for this award, you must be BOTH an active uniform Fayetteville firefighter AND planning to attend an accredited community college, college, or university within six months of the application date. Award is based on financial need

Brenda C. McFadyen Scholarship

General Eligibility Criteria: * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Have a GPA of 3.0 or better and have demonstrated financial need. Special consideration will be given to children of single parent families.

Ellen Koonce Parker Scholarship

The donor wishes to recognize deserving students from Cumberland County and Hoke County who will attend NC State University or Appalachian State University. To qualify you must be a graduating senior from Cumberland County, NC or Hoke County, NC and plan to attend NC State University or Appalachian State University within six (6) months of the application date. Thurman Williams, Jr. Scholarship

General Eligibility Criteria: * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need Competitive applicants for this award have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.85 (un-weighted), rank in the top 5% of their class, have minimum SAT scores of 1100, strong records of extra-curricular and community involvement that includes leadership positions and significant religious affiliation and participation.

John W. Wyatt Jr. Memorial Scholarship

To qualify for this award, you must be a graduating high-school senior from one of the counties served by the Foundation (Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland). You must intend to enroll at Methodist University and have demonstrated financial need. GPA is not a basis for selection. Priority will be given to students from Cumberland County with the greatest financial need.

Dr. Lee Maria Kleiss Chemistry Scholarship

Selection Committee: Fayetteville State University To qualify for this award, you must be a chemistry major at FSU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have a recommendation from an FSU Chemistry faculty member. (A lower GPA will be considered only in special hardship cases with recommendation from two FSU Chemistry faculty members.) Financial need will be considered. Additional materials required for application Answer the following questions: Using 100 words or less, describe yourself including your plans for the future, strengths and weaknesses; likes and dislikes.

Dr. Lee Maria Kleiss Chemistry Award for incoming freshman

General Eligibility Criteria: * Resident of Cumberland County * Students who will attend college, university, vocational or technical institutions as a full-time student in the fall or within six months following the award * Academic achievement and potential as indicated by class rank, GPA, and /or standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) * Financial need * Enroll at Fayetteville State University as a chemistry major and receive the highest scholarship applicant score on a competency test given by the FSU chemistry department. You must also receive a recommendation from an FSU chemistry faculty member based on a faculty interview. Financial need will also be considered.
