Ohio Scholarships

Some states or counties have hundreds of scholarships for which you may qualify.

High School Minority Scholarship

The Ohio Newspapers Foundation will award a $1,500 scholarship to a minority high school senior in Ohio who plans to pursue a newspaper journalism career.Eligibility * Applicant must be a graduating senior at an Ohio high school. Awardee must be enrolled as college freshman at an Ohio college or university for the school year. * A minimum high school grade point average of 2.5 (C+) is required. The student’s high school transcripts must accompany the application. * Applicants must be African American, Hispanic, Asian American or American Indian. * Application form must be typed or printed legibly by the applicant. (The application form on the reverse side may be photocopied). * Students must demonstrate the ability to write clearly in an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities. * Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation from high school faculty members familiar with the student’s work and career interests. * Students may provide additional information such as samples or articles that have been published (limit to two, please).

Foundation Scholar Program

Applicant Qualifications1. Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.2. Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:· An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.· A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full timestudent in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.· An accredited two-year technical school.· An accredited four-year college or university program.· An accredited graduate program.3. Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the applicant after submission of their respective transcript detailing their grades for the first quarter or semester for the next academic year. Transcript must show that the Applicant/Scholarship Recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA in their chosen course of study.4. Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.5. Other Considerations:· The Applicant does not need to be a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, their respective county Farm Bureau and/or member of any club or organization directly related to vocational agriculture.· While the Applicant does not need to be pursuing a degree directly connected to a school and/or college of agriculture, he/she must explain how a particular aspect of the field of agriculture (food production, scientific research, education/outreach, technical support, food processing, product distribution, marketing, policy making, advocacy and/or any other personal career/leadership development opportunity pursued by the applicant) impacts their career plans.

Darwin Bryan Scholarship Program

The Darwin Bryan Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 in honor of Darwin R. Bryan whose enthusiastic leadership during his 37 years of service to the organization has been an inspiration to rural youth throughout Ohio. The scholarship fund assists students who have been active in the Farm Bureau youth program and/or whose parents are Farm Bureau members.Applicant Qualifications1. Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.2. Parents of applicant (or applicant) must be Farm Bureau members for three years prior to application or applicant must have attended a summer Farm Bureau youth conference or have been an active member in a Farm Bureau youth council.3. Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:· An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.· A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.· An accredited two-year technical school.· An accredited four-year college or university program.· An accredited graduate program.4.
