Maine Scholarships

"Here are the first 20 scholarships where one of the requirements is based on where you live."

Some states or counties have hundreds of scholarships for which you may qualify.

Elson T. Killam Memorial Scholarship

($1,500) - Civil engineering or environmental engineering at a 4-year college or university Students who are attending or have been accepted into appropriate college/university programs at the undergraduate level are eligible to apply. Applicants must be members of NEWWA. Applicants must reside in New England or attend a college/university in New England to qualify. Student Application Requirements Student applicants must submit the following: • Official student application form • A two-page (maximum) résumé (that includes educational history) • Official transcripts of all university education (if applicant has not started higher education, official transcript from high school is required) • Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a teacher/professor; the second may be from a teacher/professor or professional reference such as an employer) • A one-page (maximum) statement of educational plans and career objectives demonstrating how these plans are beneficial to water works practice in New England • Copy of FAFSA (Free Applications for Federal Student Aid) confirmation Selection Criteria – Students The NEWWA Scholarship Committee considers application on the basis of merit, character and need to members and student members of the New England Water Works Association, with preference given to applicants whose programs are considered by the Scholarship Committee as beneficial to water works practice in New England.

The Francis X. Crowley Scholarship

George E. Watters Memorial Scholarship

In memory of George E. Watters. Awards $5,000 to a civil engineering student. Students who are attending or have been accepted into appropriate college/university programs at the undergraduate and graduate level are eligible to apply. Applicants must be members of NEWWA. Applicants must reside in New England or attend a college/university in New England to qualify. Joseph B. Ezhaya Memorial Scholarship

High School, Nonspecific to course of study Who is Eligible to apply? Applicants must be currently attending a Mid-Maine Chamber area high school: Lawrence, Winslow, Mt. View, Waterville, Messalonskee, MCI, Erskine, Calvary Temple or Good Will-Hinckley;maintain an academic average of a "C" or better; complete a required essay on citizenship; show evidence of community service and involvement; be enrolled in an accredited New England College or University. Application process: Joe Ezhaya was a community leader who distinguished himself with his warmth, enthusiasm, generosity and particularly, his friendships. Successful candidates for this scholarship should share Joe's interest in citizenship, community service and exemplify his spirit and vitality. The scholarship committee has determined that: The annual selection committee will be selected by an established committee of the Chamber to include no less than one member of the Ezhaya family. The Chamber will mail out the scholarship announcement with criteria to all Chamber area high school guidance councilors each year. The scholarship will be given upon completion of the 1st college semester with a grade point achievement of 2.0 or better. Joel Abromson Memorial Scholarship

High School, Nonspecific to course of study Who is Eligible to apply? Any senior student (regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression) enrolled in a Maine secondary school (high school or vocational school) who has been accepted at any college, university or technical school. Scholarship amount: $3,000 How are the scholarships awarded? Recipients are chosen based on their involvement and leadership in promoting equity for LGBT people in their schools and communities, and their commitment and concrete plans for promoting equality in Maine. Application process: Applications may be obtained on-line at equalitymaine.org Winning applicants will be notified by telephone. Funds will be disbursed to scholarship recipients upon receipt of a copy of their college acceptance letter. Scholarship recipients must be available to attend, as our guests, the Annual Awards Dinner in March in Portland for the presentation of the scholarships. When can I apply for this scholarship? Applications are accepted between January 1 and March 1 of each year. What is the application deadline? March 1

Betty Lou Bailey SWE Region F Scholarship

US citizenship and SWE membership required. Selection also based on financial need. First choice is for the applicant to attend a college/university within the Region F boundaries. 2nd choice would be for the applicant’s home address to be within the Region F boundaries. Seacoast Scholars Program

Who should apply? Residents who plan to enroll full time in post-secondary programs and live in one of the following communities are eligible for this program: New Hampshire: Barrington, Brentwood, Danville, Dover, Durham, East Kingston, Epping, Exeter, Farmington, Fremont, Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kensington, Kingston, Lee, Madbury, Milton, New Castle, Newfields, Newington, Newmarket, Newton, North Hampton, Northwood, Nottingham, Plaistow, Portsmouth, Rochester, Rollinsford, Rye, Sandown, Seabrook, Somersworth, South Hampton, Strafford, or Stratham Maine: Berwick, Eliot, Kittery, North and South Berwick, or York Selection Criteria: Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit. There is no specific income limitation; however, preference is generally given to applicants with the highest financial need. Students are selected to receive awards based on academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and work experience. An appraisal of the applicant’s abilities made by a teacher, employer or community leader is also considered. Determining financial need Candidates are required to submit a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) that is the result of filling out the Free Federal Form (FAFSA), which determines what a particular family can reasonably afford for education or the expected family contribution. In addition, finalists will be asked to supply a copy of the financial aid package offered by the institution to be attended.

SelectSpace Scholarship

Selectspace scholarship At SelectSpace Partitions, we are proud to offer a scholarship program for students in the process of pursuing a college degree. The awarded student will receive $500 to be used towards expenses for his or her degree. Who may apply? U.S. citizens accepted to or currently attending a college or university within the United States. The winner will be required to provide proof of acceptance to your college or university, or a college transcript. Deadline: Applications must be submitted via the web form by November 30. Next Steps: The award recipient will be notified of the selection on or around December 31. The scholarship award is to be used exclusively for school tuition or related expenses. A check for $500 will be made payable to the award recipient’s college or university. The recipient is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.

Our scholarship fund was founded in 2003 and we have awarded 19 winners during this time. We are trusted by universities, career coaches and companies around the world, and have helped hundreds of students find direction in choosing a well-fitting career path. We understand the overwhelming number of career opportunities available to students and how difficult this can be to navigate. CareerFitter has tailored its career assessment tool to examine multiple factors of the person to ensure a range of considerations is made to find an appropriate career. For the 2019 award, we have doubled the value to $1000 to further our support of students and their education. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. A specific major is not required for this award, but the applicant should have above a 2.4 Grade Point Average.

Arthur E. Coia Scholarship & Education Fund

The Arthur E. Coia Scholarship & Education Fund is designed to provide financial aid to undergraduate, full-time, matriculating students of an accredited institution (college, university, or technical school). This award is renewable each year while attending an undergraduate college/university of your choice, conditioned on your meeting the academic criteria set forth by the Scholarship Committee. The scholarship is available to New England Laborers, their spouses, and their children. The Union member must be a member of an affiliated Local Union of the Laborers' International Union of North America from New England. New England includes the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. All materials will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and evaluations will be based on scholastic merit, financial need and extra curricular accomplishments to date.
