Welding Scholarships

The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a career in welding engineering. Eligibility The Donald and Shirley Hastings Scholarship will be awarded to a college undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: Applicants must be a minimum of eighteen years of age Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma Applicant must have a 2.5 grade point average overall Proof of financial need is required to qualify. FAFSA must be filed Applicant must submit all required application information Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Iowa, Ohio, or California. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specified area for a minimum of one year.) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and be granted the award for a maximum of four years.

Howell Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year degree in a welding program at an accredited university. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average. Student may be enrolled full or part time. Proof of financial need is required to qualify. Applicant must submit all required application information. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States. Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Florida, Michigan and Ohio. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specific area for a minimum of one year.) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society. The AWS Foundation does not discriminate by age, race, color, national origin, disability, creed, or gender. Selection Applicant will be chosen by the Named Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of five (5) members, which have been selected by the National Educational Scholarship Committee. Selection committee will determine award recipient in February of each year. Recipient will be announced at the National Awards Luncheon Awards One $2,500 award will be given annually. No awards will be paid directly to the recipient. All awards will be paid directly to the academic institution by the AWS Foundation.

Eligibility The Matsuo Bridge Company, Ltd. of Japan Scholarship will be awarded to a college junior or senior, or a graduate student pursuing a degree in civil engineering, welding engineering, welding engineering technology, or related discipline. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a high school diploma. Applicant must have a 3.0 overall grade point average. Student must be enrolled full or part time in an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicant must submit all application information. Note: The award will be available to students nationwide; however, priority will be given to individuals residing in the states of California, Texas, Oregon or Washington. (A resident is defined as having lived in a specified area for a minimum of one year.) The recipient does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society; however, he/she must agree to participate in the AWS Foundation or Matsuo Bridge Company, Ltd. of Japan Sponsored publicity. Selection The recipient will be chosen by a Selection Committee comprised of five (5) members, selected by the Education Scholarship Committee. The Selection Committee will determine award recipient in February of each year. Recipient will be announced at the National Awards Luncheon. Award One $2,500 award will be given annually.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in welding engineering, welding engineering technology, or an engineering program with an emphasis on welding (bonding and joining included), or be a graduate student pursuing a Masters or Doctorate in engineering and/or management. Eligibility The Past Presidents Scholarship will be awarded to a college junior or senior pursuing a bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or an engineering program with an emphasis on welding (bonding and joining included), or be a graduate student pursuing a Masters or Doctorate in engineering and/or management. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. A college student must be a junior, senior, or Graduate level (Masters or Ph.D). An undergraduate student must be pursuing a bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or an engineering program with emphasis on welding (includes bonding and joining). A graduate student, with a bachelors degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology, must be pursuing a Masters or Doctorate in engineering and/or management. Applicant must have demonstrated leadership qualities, i.e., community involvement, AWS Section or other professional society participation, industry leadership, and be an AWS Member. One or more recommendation letters must come from community members, local AWS Section Officers, and/or AWS District Directors, attesting to leadership capability. One or more recommendation letters must come from Faculty (if a student), or from Employer (if employed). Applicant must submit a 300-500 word essay on his/her objectives/aspirations in the field of welding. Applicant must demonstrate financial need. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Selection The recipient will be chosen by a sub-committee of the Education Scholarship Committee. Awards One award of $2,500 paid to the recipient’s college or university. Awards are for tuition and books only.

This scholarship is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Roth for a student pursuing a two-year or four-year degree in welding in the state of Michigan. The student must have completed their first year of higher education, be a full time student, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Proof of financial need is required. Preference will be given to students in the field of resistance welding. The deadline is March 15, of each calendar year for the fall semester. The award is $2,500.

This scholarship is made possible through the National Robotic Arc Welding Conference, the AWS Milwaukee Section, the D 16 Committee, and the many friends and colleagues of John F. Hinrichs who wish to continue his legacy. This scholarship is for a student in high school, tech college, or other school in welding or engineering related program. The student may be full or part time, but must exhibit a financial need to qualify. Applicant is also expected to write an essay on a specific topic as noted in the application.

You must also fill out the scholarship application and provide any documentation requested in the application instructions. You are not required to be a member of the American Welding Society. As a matter of fact, if you are awarded a scholarship, you will receive a yearlong, full membership to the Society. If you are already a member, your membership will be extended for a year.

The AWS West Michigan Section Named Scholarship is sponsored by the West Michigan Section of AWS. The recipient must be enrolled in a two or four-year welding program and be a resident of Michigan or attend a Michigan college. The student must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00. Proof of financial need is required. The Scholarship must be used toward an Associate or Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or welding a related field. The funds are for tuition, books, and/or lab fees.

This scholarship is available to honorably discharged veterans or non-traditional welding students in at least their second year of welding studies in either a 2-year or 4-year undergraduate welding program.
