Welding Scholarships

This scholarship has been established and is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Pierce. Mr. Pierce is the AWS Foundation Chair and an American Welding Society Past President. Career related to welding.

The Amos and Marilyn Winsand-Detroit Section Named Scholarship has been established, and is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Winsand and the AWS Detroit Section. Mr. Winsand is an AWS Foundation Trustee and former AWS Treasurer. The recipient must be enrolled in a two or four-year program, and be a resident of Michigan or attend a Michigan college. The Scholarship is for an Associate or Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or a related field, and the funds are for tuition, books, and/or lab fees.

To provide financial assistance to International students wishing to pursue their education in welding and related joining technologies who are not assigned to an AWS section. Eligibility Overview International Scholarships will be awarded to full time international students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in joining sciences. Applicants can be matriculating in accredited joining science programs at institutions anywhere in the world. Student must be in the top 20% of the institution

Purpose: The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a career in welding engineering. Eligibility: The Howard E. and Wilma J. Adkins Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time junior or senior level student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelor's degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma. Applicant must have completed enough academic credits to qualify for junior level status. Applicant must have a minimum 3.20 grade point average in the engineering, scientific and technical subjects and 2.80 grade point average overall. No financial need is required to qualify. Applicant must submit all required application information. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States. Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Wisconsin or Kentucky. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specific area for a minimum of one year.) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of two years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society. The AWS Foundation does not discriminate by age, race, color, national origin, disability, creed, or gender. Selection Applicant will be chosen by the Named Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of five (5) members, which have been selected by the National Educational Scholarship Committee. Selection committee will determine award recipient in February of each year. Recipient will be announced at the National Awards Luncheon. Awards One $2,500 award will be given annually. No awards will be paid directly to the recipient. All awards will be paid directly to the academic institution by the AWS Foundation.

Eligibility The Airgas - Terry Jarvis Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students interested in pursuing a career with an industrial gas or welding equipment distributor. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Applicant must be a full-time student as defined by the academic institution. Applicant must have at least a 2.8 overall grade point average with a 3.0 grade point average in engineering courses. Financial need is not required; however, priority will be given to those individuals demonstrating a financial need. Priority will be given to those individuals who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career with an industrial gas or welding equipment distributor by prior work experience, clubs, organizations or extra-curricular activities. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States or Canada. Applicant must submit all required application information. Priority will be given to those individuals residing or attending school in the states of Alabama, Georgia or Florida. (A resident is defined as having lived in the specified area for a minimum of one year.) Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Awarded to a full-time undergraduate pursuing a minimum four-year degree in welding engineering at The Ohio State University. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average. Financial need is not required to qualify. Electrical engineering candidates will be considered if there are no qualified welding engineering candidates. The applicant must be a citizen of the United States. One award for $3,000 is available. The application deadline is February 15, for the following fall term. Funding is available June 1 - May 31.

Brady Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average. Applicant must provide a letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience. Student may be enrolled full or part time. Proof of financial need is required to qualify. Applicant must submit all required application information. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States. Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average. Student must be enrolled full-time. Proof of financial need is required to qualify. This scholarship is sponsored by Bug-O Systems and is for a student pursuing a certificate or degree in welding or a related field with an interest in welding automation or mechanization. The student must be full time with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have an interest in welding automation or mechanization. The award is $1,250.

This scholarship honors Paul's dedication to hard work, academics, welding, and his love for Montana. To be considered for this scholarship one must provide evidence of a strong work background, hands-on welding experience, academic excellence, and a residency or college tie to Montana. The student must be enrolled full time in a 2- or 4-year welding or metallurgy program. S. and Canadian citizens who are students majoring in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology. These students must be in good academic standing and meet the following criteria. 1. Junior level student in a four-year program only. 2. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average. 3. Financial need is not required. 4. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada, and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States or Canada. 5. Applicant must be working towards a four-year degree in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology. 6. Applicant must submit a completed application. 7. Applicant must provide an essay of 500 words or less about why the student wishes to become involved in the resistance welding industry. 8. Candidates must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or an Academic Advisor using the RWMA Scholarship Recommendation form. 9. Candidates must submit a second letter of recommendation from another party, such as an employer, using the RWMA Scholarship Recommendation form. 10. Candidates must submit a personal statement to include the following information: demonstrated timeliness and completion of assignments, creativity in solving problems, demonstrated responsibility on own initiative, ability to work well with others, organization skills (ability to handle multiple tasks, time management), participation in class, campus and outside organizations, participation in AWS Student and Section activities, and career objectives.
