Science Scholarships

Here are some of the Science scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Balthazor Family Scholarship

Recipients to be outstanding students in chemistry and biology. The recipient(s) shall be a full time student with a declared major* in chemistry or biology who is classified as a junior or senior. Selection will be based on academic achievement, research activities and assessment by faculty members in chemistry and biology. Preference will be given to individuals who intend to pursue research careers in chemistry and/or biology. *(exclusive of pre-medical, pre-engineering, agriculture, nursing, forensic chemistry, technology studies or majors not requiring the most rigorous scientific classes for attaining the undergraduate degree)

Biology - Academic Opportunity Award

In addition to the scholarship application, all applicants should write a short paragraph describing specific interests and/or career goals within the broad discipline of biology. Biological Sciences include a choice of programs in Biology, Botany, Conservation, Secondary Education, Range Management, Pre-Forestry, Pre-Physical Therapy, Medical Technology, and Fisheries and Wildlife Management. Applicants should indicate area of interest on the application. These awards are for incoming freshmen only.

Bruce Zamrzla Environmental Concerns Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a Biology major with emphasis in aquatic biology or fisheries. Priority to Kansas counties of Lincoln, Ellsworth, Saline, Russell or Ottawa if commendable applicants are identified.

Wayne and Eula Cook SCholarship

Preference to students working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Biology who show financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Chemistry - Academic Opportunity Award

Scholarships are awarded in the following areas of study: Chemistry, Pre-Dental, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Osteopathy, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Optometry. Applicants may submit a supporting letter from a science teacher (preferably the chemistry teacher). This letter is to be submitted to the Chemistry department. Also, the applicants may submit a short statement outlining their academic plans and career goals. These awards are for incoming freshmen only.

Chemistry Club Scholarship

Chemistry Club members choose recipients for scholarships among majors in the department. Academic achievement, service to the department, and activity in Chemistry Club are the criteria on which awards are based.

Dr. Edmund C. Shearer Memorial Chemistry Scholarship

Eligibility: 1. Applicant must be a Kansas resident majoring in Chemistry with an emphasis in a health related field. 2. Applicant must be classified as sophomore with first preference for students with 45 or more hours and second preference for students with 30 or more hours.

Elgin and Freda Denio Physical and Life Science Scholarship

Must be a resident of Kansas majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics.

Harold S. and Genevieve L. Choguill Scholarship

Applicant must be a chemistry major with high academic standing. A junior or senior is preferred.

Harvey A. Zinszer Physics Scholarship

Applicants must have sophomore status or above and be majoring in Physics.

Hospira Chemistry Scholarship

Students must be classified as a junior or senior majoring in Chemistry with a minimum 3.0 GPA. First preference is for a student interested in Organic or Biochemistry.

James and Phyllis Kellerman Family Scholarship

Eligibility: 1. Native FHSU student, cannot be a transfer student. 2. Junior or senior classification. 3. Awarded yearly on a rotating basis to the following areas: Management Information Systems, Elementary Education and Chemistry Pre-Medicine major.
