Physical Science Scholarships

Description:Established to provide financial assistance and summer internships to undergraduates at minority academic institutions (MAIs) who are interested in majoring in fields related to the environment. Eligibility:Applicants for this program must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled full time with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in an accredited 4-year institution that meets the definition of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an MAI: Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges (TCs). Students must be majoring in environmental science, physical sciences, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, environmental health, social sciences, mathematics, or engineering. They must be available to work as interns at an EPA facility during the summer between their junior and senior years.

Eligibility:Must be a member of the Radiochemistry Society. And must be a graduate student with a grade point average of 3.0 or an undergraduate student with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. And must be enrolled or accepted in an academic program of study in Chemistry, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Radiochemistry, Health Physics, or any other related scientific field of study.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA - Applicants MUST meet all of the following criteria: 1. Must have a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA). 2. Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited four year college/university, or a full-time student at a two year college enrolled in a program leading to an academic degree. 3. Majoring in one of the following college disciplines at a accredited 4-year college or university: * Math * Medicine * Physical Science * Technology * Science * Engineering * Natural Resources 4. Must be a member of an American Indian tribe or otherwise considered to be an American Indian by the tribe with which affiliation is claimed; or is at least 1/4 American Indian blood; or is at least 1/4 Alaskan Native; or considered to be an Alaskan Native by an Alaskan Native group to which affiliation is claimed. 5. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.

Applicants must be incoming freshmen intending to majoring in Engineering Physics. Selection will be based on high school grades and ACT or SAT scores. One $500 freshman scholarship will be offered.

To be eligible for a Project SEED scholarship, high school senior students must have worked at least one summer at a science institute under the Project SEED program. Scholarships are restricted to students who plan to major in a chemical science or engineering field such as chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, materials science, or some other closely related major. The scholarships are intended to assist former SEED participants in their transition from high school to college and consist of up to $5,000. Project SEED scholarships are nonrenewable and only awarded to first-year college students. Selection is based on achievement in school, success in the Project SEED program, financial need, and intended chemical-related field of scientific study. Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major and currently enrolled in an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) institution in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with one of these institutions are eligible. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application. Scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to full-time graduate students currently working toward a master's degree in an eligible major. Graduate students are not required to be enrolled in an HBCU institution. Distance-learning or online programs will not qualify. Eligibility: NOTE: Degree-seeking candidates must be U.S. citizens. Undergraduate students must be currently enrolled and attending either a two-year or four-year accredited HBCU institution in the United States. Students also may be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with one of these institutions. Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomore and junior students (minimum second-year students only) enrolled full-time in an eligible degree-seeking program. Eligible majors include the following or related STEM subjects: electrical, aerospace, systems or computer engineering; computer engineering technology; computer information systems; information systems management; computer science; physics; or mathematics. Scholarships of $2,500 will be offered to active-duty service personnel, honorably discharged U.S. military veterans, reservists, and National Guard personnel who are disabled because of wounds received during combat service in Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations. Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited two- or four-year institutions in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible. The AFCEA Disabled War Veterans Scholarships are funded by generous contributions from Microsoft employees with matching funds from Microsoft, the AFCEA Camp Pendleton Chapter, and the AFCEA Educational Foundation. Eligibility: Applications are requested from U.S. Armed Forces and National Guard personnel, either currently on active-duty or honorably discharged veterans, or reservists who are disabled because of wounds received after service in either Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom.
