Disabled War Veterans Scholarship

Scholarship Description

Scholarships of $2,500 will be offered to active-duty service personnel, honorably discharged U.S. military veterans, reservists, and National Guard personnel who are disabled because of wounds received during combat service in Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations.  Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited two- or four-year institutions in the United States.  Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible.

The AFCEA Disabled War Veterans Scholarships are funded by generous contributions from Microsoft employees with matching funds from Microsoft, the AFCEA Camp Pendleton Chapter, and the AFCEA Educational Foundation.

Eligibility:
Applications are requested from U.S. Armed Forces and National Guard personnel, either currently on active-duty or honorably discharged veterans, or reservists who are disabled because of wounds received after service in either Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom.

Applicants must be currently enrolled and attending either a two- or four-year accredited college or university in the United States.  Students may also be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with a major, accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States.

Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomores and juniors, and senior undergraduate students enrolled either part-time or full-time in an eligible degree program.

Candidates must be majoring in the following or related fields:  electrical, aerospace, systems or computer engineering; computer engineering technology; computer information systems; information systems management; computer science; physics; mathematics; or science or mathematics education.  Majors directly related to the support of U.S. intelligence or homeland security enterprises with relevance to the mission of AFCEA are also eligible.

No minimum GPA requirement. Primary factors considered in the selection process are demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and financial need.

A copy of either a Certificate of Service or Discharge Form DD214 will be required.

Important:
In addition to the online application, other required documents include: current transcript issued by the school Registrar’s Office and at least two letters of recommendation from relevant faculty.

Instructions for electronic submission of the recommendation letters will be provided to the endorsers as part of the on-line application process - please do not mail separately. Letters will be addressed to:
