Library Sciences Scholarships

Here are some of the Library Sciences scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Nellie Mumert Shutts Scholarship

Recipients will be students properly enrolled in Music or Library Science at FHSU. Scholarships are renewable.

Other Majors Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the Other Majors Application

Gumdrop Books Librarian Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to those qualified individuals who are pursuing a masters of science degree that is related to library science. Eligibility: In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet the following: Be a U.S. Citizen; Have been accepted into an accredited graduate studies program to pursue a masters degree in library science; and Have maintained a 2.5 GPA or above during undergraduate degree work. Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed in August. The scholarship award will be co-payable to the academic institution attended and the student and must be used to pay for tuition and/or room and board associated with pursuit of a masters degree in library science. This scholarship is not renewable. Amount: $5,000 (U.S. dollars; dispersed in August; nonrenewable)

Mary Pickford Scholarship

The Mary Pickford Scholarship is supported by the Mary Pickford Foundation. In 1997, it was established as the first field-wide award designed specifically for students interested in moving image archiving. To be eligible for the award, a student: * must be enrolled FULL TIME in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies or production, library or information services, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year; and * must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her most recent academic program. Students from any country may apply. Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include: a students commitment to pursuing a career in moving image archiving; the quality of a students academic record; and the strength of a students program of study as it applies to moving image archiving.

Sony Pictures Scholarship

The Sony Pictures Scholarship is supported by Sony Pictures Entertainment. In 1998, it became the first financial award in our field to be endowed on a permanent basis. To be eligible for the award, a student: * must be enrolled FULL TIME in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies or production, library or information services, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year; and * must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her most recent academic program. Students from any country may apply. Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include: a students commitment to pursuing a career in moving image archiving; the quality of a students academic record; and the strength of a students program of study as it applies to moving image archiving.

CFI Sid Solow Scholarship

The CFI Sid Solow Scholarship is supported by The Thomson Foundation for Film and Television Heritage. It was created in 1999 and named in honor of the founder of CFI. To be eligible for the award, a student: * must be enrolled FULL TIME in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies or production, library or information services, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year; and * must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her most recent academic program. Students from any country may apply. Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include: a students commitment to pursuing a career in moving image archiving; the quality of a students academic record; and the strength of a students program of study as it applies to moving image archiving.

The Rick Chace Foundation Scholarship

The Rick Chace Foundation Scholarship (named in honor of Rick Chace) was established in 2002. To be eligible for the award, a student: * must be enrolled FULL TIME in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies or production, library or information services, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year; and * must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her most recent academic program. Students from any country may apply. Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include: a students commitment to pursuing a career in moving image archiving; the quality of a students academic record; and the strength of a students program of study as it applies to moving image archiving.

Universal Studios Preservation Scholarship

The Universal Studios Preservation Scholarship was established in 2003. To be eligible for the award, a student: * must be enrolled FULL TIME in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies or production, library or information services, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year; and * must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her most recent academic program. Students from any country may apply. Continuing Education Awards

MLA members may submit applications for these awards of $100 to $500 to develop their knowledge of the theoretical, administrative, or technical aspects of librarianship. More than one continuing education (CE) award may be offered in a year and may be used either for MLA courses or for other CE activities.

Cunningham Memorial International Fellowship

The Cunningham Fellowship is a fellowship for health sciences librarians from countries outside the United States and Canada. The award provides for attendance at the MLA Annual Meeting and observation and supervised work in one or more medical libraries in the United States and Canada.

David A. Kronick Traveling Fellowship

This grant, established in 2002, awards each year one $2,000 fellowship to cover the expenses involved in traveling to three or more medical libraries in the United States or Canada, for the purpose of studying a specific aspect of health information management
