Chemical Engineering Scholarships

The Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration Foundation offer one significant scholarship (MMSA/SMEF Scholarship) on an annual basis to an outstanding student whose study program encompasses any aspect of the extractive minerals industry. The scholarship will be awarded to a student whose study program is directed toward: a. Mining or geological engineering. b. Metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, or chemical engineering as related to metal recovery. c. Mining or mineral exploration geology. d. Environmental science or engineering as related to mining activities. Applicant Qualifications: MMSA/SMEF Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Have completed at least three years of undergraduate studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. 2. Be an SME student member in good standing. 3. Attend a school that is ABET-accredited and/or has an SME student chapter. 4. Demonstrate a desire for and a probability of success in a career in the minerals industry. The online application requires the following information: 1. Demographic and contact information. 2. Short statement (one page) describing applicant’s interest in/passion for a career in the extractive minerals industry. 3. Two letters of reference, at least one of which must be from university faculty. 4. Résumé detailing past education and work experience. 5. Copy of most recent transcript (unofficial transcripts are OK). 6. Anticipated expenses/income for the current academic year.

The Mining & Exploration (M&E) Division of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration annually awards scholarships to promising college students who have chosen as a career path the field of mining engineering. Applicants must be majoring in mining, geology or other field of specialization covered by the M&E Division’s technical unit committees (Environmental Control & Reclamation, Geochemistry, Geology, Geomechanics, Geophysics, Hydrology, Open Pit Mining, Operations Research, Solution Mining, Underground Mining and Underground Ventilation). The Eugene P. Pfleider Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Mining & Exploration Division and is awarded on an annual basis to students pursuing careers in mining engineering. Eligible students may submit one application in consideration for both of these scholarships. See the scholarship guidelines for more information. On an annual basis, the Women's Auxiliary to AIME (WAAIME) Scholarship fund provides scholarships to students pursuing degrees in the earth sciences as related to the minerals field. Fields recognized by WAAIME may include mining, geological sciences, metallurgy, petroleum, mineral sciences, materials science and engineering, mining economics, chemical engineering, and other related studies. The number and amount of scholarships awarded yearly shall be dictated by the funds available and by the financial needs of the applicants. Students are eligible to receive a maximum of two years of funding from WAAIME. The two years may be two undergraduate years, two graduate years, or one undergraduate year and one graduate year. Should extenuating circumstances occur, the student’s sponsoring section’s scholarship chair may recommend that the WAAIME Executive Committee approve a third year of funding for a student. Students wishing to receive funding must reapply annually. WAAIME Scholarship applicants must be attending accredited colleges or universities within the United States. The list of schools accredited by ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, shall be used as a general guideline. There are no requirements regarding age, sex, citizenship, race or religion. Candidates may first apply in their second year of study. Preference will be given first to those needing aid for their final year and secondly to those requiring aid for their junior year. Undergraduate assistance will have priority over graduate work. All candidates must be full-time students and must maintain full-time status to receive WAAIME assistance. The James M. & Erma T. Freemont Foundation will award $10,000 in scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic school year. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and students in graduate school. The Foundation is funding scholarships for students in the following categories: High School Seniors College Undergraduates Graduate Students The James M. & Erma T. Criteria/General Guidelines High School Seniors Current high school seniors must attend school in the United States. Applicant must be anticipating completion of high school in the spring. Applicants must plan to matriculate at accredited HBCU for the academic year (enrollment must begin in the Fall) with the intention of maintaining full-time status for the entire year. Current minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale (excluding home school studies), and minimum SAT score of 1800 (combined math essay and verbal score) or ACT score of 28. Applicants must apply to and be accepted into an HBCU by July 1st. If you do not yet know which school you will attend, put your first choice. If you are awarded a scholarship you will need to submit proof of acceptance If you are an incoming student who has yet to enroll, you must submit proof of acceptance from schools of choice. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service activities. Graduate Students Graduate students must be enrolled in or must apply to and be accepted into a graduate school by July 1st. Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree in the health and medical sciences with the intention of pursuing that discipline as a career. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited graduate degree program in the United States for the Fall 2015/Spring 2016 academic year (enrollment must begin in the Fall). Current minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service activities.

Purpose To provide an incentive to engineering undergraduate students enrolled in ABET accredited engineering programs to choose nondestructive testing and evaluation as their field of specialization. The Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship is a monetary award. Eligibility Undergraduate students enrolled in an engineering program of an ABET accredited university at the time the application is submitted for this scholarship. Each potential candidate for this award must show their anticipated graduation date to be later that the date the award funds are to be distributed. Each potential candidate must also show an active interest in the field of nondestructive testing and evaluation. Method of Selection The University Programs Committee selects up to three $3,000 scholarships each year, pending merit and number of submissions. * The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation was created to ensure that the United States would maintain its leadership in science and technology in the future by supporting promising students in science and engineering. * Scholarship candidates must be nominated by faculty members. Students may not apply directly for the scholarship. * Scholarship nominees must be U.S. citizens. * Scholarship nominees must be engineering or natural or applied science (e.g. astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, computer science) or mathematics students with intentions to pursue research or advance their field upon completion of their final degrees. Students intending to pursue a practice in professional medicine are not eligible for the scholarship. However, those intending to perform biomedical research are eligible. * At the time of nomination, scholarship candidates must be at least second year (sophomore) college students, have excellent grades, and have participated in lab and research work in their field. With this background, the student is fairly well committed to continuing on this course. * The Astronaut Scholarship is awarded only to students during their junior or senior year, or to Masters students. In some cases students may carry their awards to a second year. * Scholarship nominees are those students who have shown initiative, creativity, and excellence in their chosen field. The university committee selects their best two candidates and submits these nominees to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Scholarship Committee. * The ASF Scholarship Committee selects one recipient from each school and presents the candidates to the ASF Board of Directors for approval. If both nominees from a school are deemed unqualified, the scholarship will not be awarded to the school.

Scholarship awards to current Delaware residents, who were born in the state, and who are studying chemistry, engineering, law, medicine, or dentistry and demonstrate financial need. Application form required. Initial approach: Letter

Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and be applying to or accepted at an accredited college (excluding proprietary schools) in the United States. 3. NAACP membership and participation is highly desirable. 4. Undergraduate applicant must be a full-time student. If a student drops below the required full-time status, the Scholarship Selection Committee will adjust the grant received to 50% of the award allocated for that semester. Graduate applicant may be a full or part-time student. 5. Applicant must possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 (C+) on a 4.0 system. 6. Graduating high school seniors and undergraduate students must possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 system, or a B average on a 4.0 system. 7. Applicant must demonstrate financial need as based on the following scale: 8. Members of the National NAACP Board of Directors, SCF Trustees, National Youth Work Committee, NAACP Scholarship Selection Commitee, employees and their spouses or families to the first degree of consanguinity, are not eligible to apply for or receive this scholarship.

With Internet marketing becoming more complex and challenging by the day, successful execution requires a solid education. Through the Straight North STEM Scholarship, we award the winning student $1,000 to be used toward his or her degree. In addition, we award $250 book scholarships to the two runners-up.

1. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students in either a four-year college or a two-year technical program. 2. Applicants must be graduates of public or private high schools. Criteria: 1. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.
