Mathematics Scholarships

The Chen Foundation is a private foundation focused on helping economically-challenged youth fulfill their dreams of obtaining a higher education. The scholarship is renewable, allowing scholarship recipients to receive an additional $2,000 award after their first quarter/semester of college if they maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher and active involvement in community service. Eligibility: High school seniors who reside in California Plan to attend a California State University as a 1st year college student Plan to major in math, engineering, or a science Have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 Have a household income at or below "Low Income" based on the California Low Income Level The Chen Foundation Scholarship Program provides: Five - $2,000 scholarship awards to incoming 1st year college students attending a California State University Scholarship renewal (an additional $2,000) if the awardee maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA after their 1st quarter/semester of college and an active engagement in community service

Up to three (3) $1,000.00 scholarships may be awarded annually for tuition and fees to an accredited educational institution. Disbursement of scholarships for tuition and fees will be made directly to an accredited educational institution. Scholarships are not renewable; however, a recipient may reapply. At a minimum: An undergraduate applicant must be a full-time student, as defined by the accredited educational institution the applicant is attending, and must have completed the first year and one semester of the second year in that educational institution. A graduate applicant must be taking at least two courses at an accredited educational institution and must have completed four (4) graduate credit courses in his/her chosen program. The applicant's status must meet the above requirements for the term subsequent to when the scholarship is awarded. Applicants must have declared his/her major course work to be in the field of Insurance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Management, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics, or a Business-related field. Applicants must have a cumulative G.P.A. at the time of application of at least 3.00. Applicants must submit the following information for consideration: A completed application. An official transcript of his/her most recent grades or a copy of his/her latest report card, providing that it shows the cumulative grade point average. A resume noting such items as academic achievements and involvement in scholastic activities, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles. A short narrative describing any current and/or future interest to pursue education/career in the insurance field. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, business or civic leader, or member of the clergy. The Scholarship Selection Sub-Committee will make their selections of the eligible candidates based upon: Grade Point Average; Involvement in extra-curricular activities; and, Level of educational interest and dedication to the insurance industry. Preference will be given to an AICP member or a relative of an AICP member. Individuals (including past recipients of scholarship) may re-apply each year. Incomplete applications and late materials will not be considered. The AICP reserves the right to reject any applicant, at any time, for any reason.

Amount: $ 1,000 Criteria Must be enrolled at a accredited university or public / private college in the State of Texas Completed 90 credit hours before the fall semester All majors are eligible but students must be pursing a pre-law program and / or planning to attend law school Have and maintain a 2.75 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Provide one letter of recommendation from an educator familiar with your academic career Provide a resume of your community service activities Must maintain full-time enrollment status (12 hours if applicable) for the duration of the scholarship Preference will be given to female students of Hispanic descent

The scholarship award (individually, a “Scholarship” or an “Award”, together, the “Awards”) includes full tuition for the academic years, and will be awarded at the beginning of the school year. The Scholarship does not cover room and board, other living expenses, books or materials fees, transportation, or other costs not included in tuition. Up to ten (10) Awards will be granted by BlackBerry in accordance with the selection criteria described below. The specific terms and conditions of the Awards will be contained in a letter sent to each recipient of a Scholarship. The Recipient will be required to review the terms and conditions and communicate her acceptance of the Scholarship in writing to BlackBerry. Failure to fulfill the requirements of the Program at any point during the four-year academic period will result in forfeiture of the remainder of the Award. In sum, the terms and conditions include (but are not limited to): The Recipient must remain an active, full-time student, enrolled in an undergraduate program in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math related fields at all times during the academic years of the Award. The Recipient must remain in good academic standing and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (or local equivalent) in order to maintain the award or forfeit the remainder of the Award. Recipient will be required to submit a current academic transcript following the end of each academic year, as will be detailed in the terms and conditions. Through the four years of study covered by the Award, the Recipient must use a BlackBerry® smartphone exclusively (to be provided by BlackBerry) and must participate in various BlackBerry “Keep Moving” projects, training, networking opportunities and mentoring programs identified by BlackBerry, and may be responsible for written materials from time to time as may be requested by BlackBerry. All written work product and blog entries will become property of BlackBerry. An internship at BlackBerry may be required for one three (3) month period during third or fourth year of study, with all related living and travel expenses associated with the internship to be paid by BlackBerry. Payment of the Scholarships will be made directly to the college or university in which the recipient is matriculated and enrolled on an annual basis before the start of each school year. Any tax implications for the Scholarship will depend on the tax law where the individual Recipient resides and may also depend on the policies and procedures at the college or university where the recipient has matriculated. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA All applicants to The BlackBerry® Scholars Program must be female and age 18 or older (or the equivalent age of majority where you live). If the applicant is a minor, consent for participation in the program and acceptance of the Award is required from their parent or legal guardian at the time of application for the Program. The Program is open to U.S. and non-U.S. students worldwide, unless otherwise indicated in these terms and conditions or in other documentation associated with the Program. Applicants must be entering as a full-time first year undergraduate at an accredited college or university and planning to pursue a course of study majoring or concentrating in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. Transfer between Science, Technology and Math programs will not affect payment of the award, however BlackBerry must be notified prior to any transfer. Employees of BlackBerry and members of the scholarship selection panel, and members of their immediate families or others living in the same household, are not eligible for a scholarship through the Program and should not apply. Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major and currently enrolled in an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) institution in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with one of these institutions are eligible. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application. Scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to full-time graduate students currently working toward a master's degree in an eligible major. Graduate students are not required to be enrolled in an HBCU institution. Distance-learning or online programs will not qualify. Eligibility: NOTE: Degree-seeking candidates must be U.S. citizens. Undergraduate students must be currently enrolled and attending either a two-year or four-year accredited HBCU institution in the United States. Students also may be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with one of these institutions. Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomore and junior students (minimum second-year students only) enrolled full-time in an eligible degree-seeking program. Eligible majors include the following or related STEM subjects: electrical, aerospace, systems or computer engineering; computer engineering technology; computer information systems; information systems management; computer science; physics; or mathematics. Majors directly related to the support of U.S.intelligence or homeland security enterprises with relevance to the mission of AFCEA will also be eligible. Graduate-level eligible degree programs include the following or related fields of electrical, electronics, chemical, systems or communications engineering; physics; mathematics; computer science; technology management; or information technology. An overall GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) is required. Special consideration will be given to military enlisted candidates/military veterans. Scholarships of $2,500 will be offered to active-duty service personnel, honorably discharged U.S. military veterans, reservists, and National Guard personnel who are disabled because of wounds received during combat service in Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations. Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited two- or four-year institutions in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible. The AFCEA Disabled War Veterans Scholarships are funded by generous contributions from Microsoft employees with matching funds from Microsoft, the AFCEA Camp Pendleton Chapter, and the AFCEA Educational Foundation. Eligibility: Applications are requested from U.S. Armed Forces and National Guard personnel, either currently on active-duty or honorably discharged veterans, or reservists who are disabled because of wounds received after service in either Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom. Applicants must be currently enrolled and attending either a two- or four-year accredited college or university in the United States. Students may also be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with a major, accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States. Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomores and juniors, and senior undergraduate students enrolled either part-time or full-time in an eligible degree program. Merit-based scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services, to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel), and to disabled veterans who are currently enrolled part time or full time in an eligible degree program at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the U.S. Eligible candidates must be at least second-year college students enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors in four-year institutions at the time of application. All candidates must provide a copy of Certificate of Service, Discharge Form DD214, copy of latest performance review or other verification of service. (Please black out your Social Security Number when submitting.) Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible. Eligibility: Applicants must be: 1. Scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to students currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the hard science or technology disciplines directly related to the mission of AFCEA while employed by a small business. Applicants must be a young professional (age 40 or under) with demonstrated entrepreneurial talents or accomplishments. Undergraduate candidates must be at least second-year students attending an accredited college or university in the United States. Graduate students must have completed at least two postgraduate-level classes prior to the deadline date. The scholarship is intended for students attending school on a part-time basis, whether at a two-year community college or accredited university institution. Part-time status will be defined as enrollment in at least two classes (semester-equivalent) with a declared major in a science or technology degree program or a declared major in a business field with a science or technology minor. Student enrolled in on-line or distance-learning programs will be eligible, as long as all other criteria are met. Eligible students must also be currently employed (see above). Eligibility: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, attending an accredited college or university in the United States as either a traditional or distance-learning student, and working toward a degree in the following C4I-related fields of electrical, computer, chemical, systems or communications engineering; computer science; physics; mathematics; technology management; computer information systems; management information systems or related fields. Business majors with a minor in science or technology are also eligible. An overall GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale or better is required. Undergraduate applications will be accepted from sophomore, junior and senior students - minimum second-year students please. Graduate applications will be accepted from students who have completed at least two postgraduate-level courses and are enrolled in an eligible degree-granting master's degree program.
