Mathematics Scholarships

Eligibility: NOTE: U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants. Scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded to students studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors or related fields. Students must be attending full-time in an eligible graduate degree program with a GPA of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Qualifying STEM Majors include: electrical, computer, chemical, systems, or aerospace engineering; computer science; computer information systems; technology management; management information systems; physics; mathematics; bioinformatics; or other majors related to the mission of AFCEA. Important: In addition to the online application, other required documents include: current transcript issued by the school Registrar's Office and at least two letters of recommendation from relevant faculty. Instructions for electronic submission of the recommendation letters will be provided to the endorsers as part of the on-line application process - please do not mail separately. The Dakota Corps scholarships are four-year, full-tuition-and-fee scholarships for South Dakota high school seniors who plan to major in and then become employed in one of the following critical-need occupations: special education, math education, science education, career and technical education, accountant/auditor, nursing, engineering (except mining), and information technology. Students must have a composite ACT score of 24 or greater and have graduated from an accredited South Dakota high school with a GPA of 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale. In addition, recipients must agree to stay in South Dakota and work in their critical need occupation for as many years as the scholarship was received plus one year. For students who are pursuing studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). Northwest Residency: Applicants must be a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington but may study elsewhere. Applicants are considered a resident of one of these states if they: currently live within that state and have done so for at least three months prior to the application deadline; or have lived within that state for at least one year at any time within the five years prior to the application deadline; or have lived within that state for more than one year at any time and have been continuously enrolled in an accredited academic institution for the five years prior to the application deadline. LGBTQ Community Involvement: Preference is given to students who are self-identified LGBTQ, members of LGBTQ families, or straight allies who have been strongly supportive of the LGBTQ community. All scholarships emphasize demonstrated commitment to equality and civil rights for all people.

The Hans P. Loewen Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high-school senior, a college freshman or sophomore who has enrolled full-time, in college courses and is pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM). ANS will present one annual award of $2000. The scholarship is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled in an ABET accredited U.S. University. Applicants for the Hans Loewen scholarship must submit an essay describing his/her leadership qualities and in particular how he/she helps others meet their goals. Applicants must be ANS National Student Members unless they are incoming freshmen. Recipients must be ANS National Student Members prior to the final disbursement of funds. Incoming freshmen selected to receive the award must become ANS National Student Members once they begin their undergraduate studies and they must notify ANS Headquaters that they have joined the Society. Once Headquarters verifies these awardees have joined the Society, they will be sent the award funds.

The purpose of our scholarships is to encourage young women interested in a career in the aerospace field to pursue higher education degrees in engineering or science or math. We have four merit-based awards of $2000 that will be given to rising juniors and seniors in college.

The Scholarship Program, which is funded by NAVSEA and SSP consists of two parts: a one-time $10,000 scholarship awarded the freshman year of college; and an opportunity to apply for summer employment, which provides valuable technical work experience and continued tuition assistance (up to $15,000 per annum). Scholarship Criteria Qualified recipients must: A. Must be an enrolled member of an American Indian tribe, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian or otherwise considered to be an American Indian by the tribe with which affiliation is claimed; or is at least 1/4 American Indian blood; or is at least 1/4 Alaskan Native; or considered to be an Alaskan Native by an Alaskan Native group to which affiliation is claimed; B. Must be a current AISES member; C. be a United States citizen; D. be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a freshmen degree-seeking student; E. pursue a Navy-relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree; F. be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Native American Serving Institution, Historically Black College or University (HBCU), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) or other Minority Serving Institution (MI) as designated by the Department of Education with an ABET-accredited engineering program; G. carry a full-time academic course load as defined by the school; H. be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, or an equivalent academic status, at the time of award; I. not have been charged, arrested, prosecuted and/or convicted of an offense that would prevent the recipient from obtaining an interim security clearance at NAVSEA and/or SSP; J. demonstrate a clear financial need as determined and validated by the school.

Field of Study: Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics Amount of Scholarship: $6500 Scholarship Guidelines: Scholarship is for a one-time issuance and is not renewable. Checks are issued to the educational institution and the recipient. Funds are to be used for tuition, books and fees only, any unused funds shall be returned. Candidate Eligibility Requirements Are you a female U.S. citizen? Will you be at least a college sophomore in August? Are you attending an accredited U.S. university or college in August? Do you currently maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale? Are you studying in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics? Awards of up to $5,000 are funded by TOYOTA, our Foundation’s largest corporate partner since 2007, for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Business or STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Despite the growing need for professionals in these fields, recent studies show that a disproportionately low number of Latinos—our nation’s largest and fastest-growing demographic—are pursuing degrees in these rigorous disciplines. Our partnership with TOYOTA directly addresses this need by providing our Scholars with vital financial resources and equipping them with the tools and skills they need to become the well-educated and skilled professionals who will ensure that entrepreneurship and innovation remain hallmarks of America. TOYOTA/TELACU Scholars benefit from all elements of the College Success Program to ensure attainment of their Bachelor’s degree. They also receive individualized attention, such as interviewing skills preparation and coaching; they are provided with opportunities to pursue internship and employment opportunities with our corporate partners and receive guidance and support to successfully transition into the professional arena. The NSHSS Foundation provides STEM scholarships for underrepresented groups in order to help reduce financial barriers for those with academic and leadership potential and the desire to pursue STEM careers. We recognize that in order to increase diversity in the technology workforce, we must increase diversity in undergraduates. The Foundation awards scholarships to applicants who are pursuing a degree in, or closely related to, one of the following STEM disciplines: Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering Biosciences/Pre-med/health-related fields Chemical Engineering Chemistry Civil Engineering Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences Computer and Computational Sciences, including Statistics and Accounting Electrical Engineering Geosciences Information Sciences Materials Science and Engineering Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Nuclear Engineering Oceanography Operations Research Physics Teaching in STEM areas

NSHSS Foundation scholarships have been created to help reduce financial barriers for high school students as they prepare for upcoming careers in STEM majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), business, economics, public policy, and environmental science and sustainability. The Foundation seeks to engage these future leaders in order to help fuel the global economy, stimulate innovation and creativity, and yield a strong ethical foundation for decision-making. We seek to support higher education to enable our future leaders to achieve their dreams.

The Cognizant Making the Future scholarship program recognizes today’s inspiration as tomorrow’s innovation. The goal of the scholarship program is to expand the pool of students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields who are encouraged “to be makers of things, not just consumers of things” as highlighted by President Obama at the National Academies of Science in 2009. Cognizant is committed to preparing the next generation with the skills they will need to be active participants in an environment that will become increasingly dominated by technology. This is a design-based scholarship and candidates will be required to submit documentation of a hands-on project that illustrates both creativity and innovation. The New York Hall of Science will serve as the Chair of the Selection Committee which will also include the Maker Education Collaborative, Cognizant and other organizations that support making initiatives. Criteria: Students are eligible to submit a project for consideration if they are:  Pursuing a career in a STEM field.  A citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States.  Eligible to enroll or currently enrolled at a two or four year accredited college or university with a full course of undergraduate study or a vocational-technical school.  A student in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average. Amount: Award amounts are $5,000. The award will be payable to the institution earmarked for the account of the student. The award is non-transferable and the recipient may not receive cash.
