Environmental Science Scholarships

Here are some of the Environmental Science scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Decommissioning, Decontamination and Reutilization Scholarship (Masters Level)

For students pursuing a degree in engineering or science major with emphasis on:/ Decommissioning/decontamination or, Management/characterization of radioactive waste or, Restoration of the environment or, Nuclear engineering. Special selection criteria, restrictions, and other special requirements (if any): The student must be enrolled in a curriculum of engineering and the scholarship is limited to U.S. citizens who are enrolled in U.S. schools. Applicants for the DD&R Scholarship must submit a description of long-term and short-term professional objectives. The student will join the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and designate the DDR Division as one of his/her professional divisions. The student will commit to participating in the DD&R Division Activities by attending either or both the ANS annual and winter meeting and serving as a student representative at the DD&R Executive Committee meetings at the ANS meeting. The Division will provide funding for the student's travel, including student registration, reasonable transportation, food, and lodging.

WEF Canham Graduate Studies Scholarship

This scholarship provides $25,000 for a post-baccalaureate student in the water environment field. The scholarship is for education related expenses such as room and board, tuition and books. The scholarship may not be used to cover stipends or wages. Application Requirements and Criteria: Member of the Water Environment Federation. Completed application providing a summary of academic and practical experience in the environmental field. Official college/university transcripts. Letter of acceptance to a graduate program in the water environment field. Recommendations from three persons (at least one of these persons must be a member of the Water Environment Federation) who can attest to the applicant's academic and/or practical experience. A detailed statement of degree objectives as related to applicant's career goals and intent to work in the water environment field (750 words minimum; 1,000 words maximum). Statement must accompany the application. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to make a commitment to work in the water environment field for two years following completion of the degree. Applications Accepted From: Post-baccalaureate students in the water environment field. Application forms must be completed and submitted along with three letters of reference. Recipient is responsible for taxes due on the award.

Connecticut Section AWWA Associates Committee General Scholarship Program

Applications are now being accepted for the CT Section AWWA Associates Committee General Scholarship Program, from CT Section AWWA members or their children/dependents, who have not previously been awarded a CT Section AWWA scholarship. High School seniors and students currently enrolled in an education program beyond the secondary level in a 2 year, 4 year or graduate program are eligible. Student members of CT AWWA are also eligible. Awards will be based on academic performance, participation in school and community activities, application completeness and autobiographical sketch. Applicants must submit a completed application form and the following information: • A transcript of your high school record and college record, if applicable • A typed and signed autobiographical sketch highlighting: Your accomplishments, interests, hobbies, future plans; and The name of the last book you read, why you read it, and its significance to you. • Identify a person (not a relative) who has most influenced you and explain why. • Identify any special circumstances that you wish to be considered that may distinguish you from other applicants. These may include but are not limited to obstacles you have overcome, academic goals, interests, advancements, financial constraints, etc.

Roy W. Likins Scholarship

Each year, the Likins Scholarship Committee awards a minimum of $2,500 to a maximum of $25,000 in scholarships. The scholarships are distributed in $2,500 or more increments to deserving Florida students, either in undergraduate or graduate school. Application Instructions Purpose The Florida Section American Water Works Association will annually award up to $2,500 scholarships or more per student to eligible students pursuing a degree relating to the drinking water industry. The scholarship will provide reimbursement of tuition, books, and fees through the College/University Financial Aid Department over the upcoming two (2) year period. Scholarships will be awarded in both undergraduate and graduate categories. Eligibility Applicant must be an upper level undergraduate (over 65 credit hours) or graduate student enrolled in an accredited Florida Institution and currently majoring in an area related to the drinking water industry. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average based on a 4.0 system. Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible. Selection Process Evaluation will be made on the basis of academic performance, work experience, community and civic activities, honor, career goals, letters of recommendation, and evidence of leadership, motivation, character, and self-reliance. At the option of the Scholarship Committee, the top five candidates may be telephone interviewed by a member of the scholarship committee. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Florida Section American Water Works Association. Final Selection: Committee will make final selection of scholarship awardees by August 1st yearly.

Gail and Allan Fujimoto Scholarship

 Student must be pursuing a career in agriculture, environmental sustainability or majors within the College of Tropical Agriculture  Attending a University of Hawai`i system institution  Letter of recommendation from faculty or staff or a community person that can attest to your dedication and commitment to agricultural sustainability in Hawai`i  Essay demonstrating your desire and commitment to utilize their skills and expertise to develop agriculture and sustainability in the state of Hawai`i General criteria: • Must be a classified undergraduate student • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program, unless specifically noted • Enrolled in a two- or four-year, accredited* college institution in Hawai`i or the continental U.S. • Full-time status, unless specifically noted • Demonstrate interest in Hawaiian language, culture, history • Demonstrate a commitment to contribute to the greater community. *See website for accrediting bodies that are recognized by the Foundation.

The GCFM Horticulture Scholarship

Details of the Award The purpose of the GCFM Horticulture Scholarship is to encourage and financially aid students who are interested in a future major or in a current major in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, and/or other gardening related fields. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements as listed on the National Garden Clubs Scholarships website. The student must be a legal resident of the State of Maine and must be a junior or senior in an undergraduate program leading to a degree in one of the previously mentioned areas. College sophomores are eligible to apply, as they will be entering their junior year the following fall. Masters students pursuing an education in one of these fields are also eligible, but PhD students are not. Masters students must be enrolled for the fall semester following the award. If awaiting acceptance to graduate school, students should apply on the basis of expenses and programs that would pertain to their preferred school. The GCFM Scholarship Chair should be notified with respect to acceptance in a graduate program as soon as possible and preferably on or before March 21 for full consideration.

Karen Mashburn Environmental Scholars Program

The purpose is to support student’s studies through a $10,000 scholarship and offer an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study. The scholarship recipient will participate in a 12-week fall internship at Friends of the Everglades in Stuart, Florida, helping to support the Young Friends of the Everglades program and engage in community outreach.

Healthline Stronger Scholarship

Healthline is teaming up with The Nature Conservancy to award four $5,000 scholarships to students who are committed to making a difference at the intersection of health and climate change through their studies, extracurriculars, and career goals. NSHSS Foundation Scholarships

NSHSS Foundation scholarships have been created to help reduce financial barriers for high school students as they prepare for upcoming careers in STEM majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), business, economics, public policy, and environmental science and sustainability. The Foundation seeks to engage these future leaders in order to help fuel the global economy, stimulate innovation and creativity, and yield a strong ethical foundation for decision-making. We seek to support higher education to enable our future leaders to achieve their dreams.

Connecticut Water Works Association Scholarship

The Connecticut Water Works Association and the Connecticut Section of the American Water Works Association have established a scholarship for eligible high schools students that shall be administered through the Scholarship and Awards Committee. It is the intention of the Committee to award these scholarships each calendar year to selected and deserving candidates. Consideration for scholarships shall be based on criteria established by the Committee, as approved by the CWWA Board of Directors. The criteria and application shall be reviewed periodically by the Board and updated as deemed necessary. Scholarship Eligibility Criteria The application shall be signed and dated by the applicant and must be received by the application deadline to be considered. The applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship: 1. Applicants will be a graduating High School Senior from an accredited Connecticut High School or equivalent. 2. Preference will be given to applicants who are actively pursuing an approved course of study at an accredited higher education institution directly related to environmental science, water resources, public health or the water industry. 3. An academic GPA of 3.0 at their high school is mandatory. The relevance and rigor of the courses taken in high school shall be considered.

Clair A. Hill Scholarship

Each year, ACWA awards the $5,000 Clair Hill Scholarship to a qualified student in a water resources-related field of study. Eligible students must be California residents attending California colleges or universities full-time the entire academic year as a junior or senior beginning the fall semester after they are awarded the scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by FEB. 1 each year. Guidelines and Award Criteria for the Association of California Water Agencies Scholarship Award Each academic year the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) awards one Clair A. Hill scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to a qualified student in a water resources-related field of study. The guidelines and criteria for applying for the award are as follows: A. The scholarship will be known as the Clair A. Hill Scholarship. The scholarship funds associated with the award will be made available to the recipient at the beginning of each school year at the start of the fall term. B. The applicants who will be considered for the award must be California residents attending California schools. They should have completed their sophomore work and at the time of the award be full-time students in their junior or senior year. They must plan to attend school for the complete academic year. C. The award will be based not only on scholastic achievement, but also on the individual’s commitment and motivation to his / her chosen vocation. Financial need will also be given due consideration. D. The recipient should demonstrate commitment to the field of water resources by pursuing a degree related to, or identified with, engineering, agricultural and / or urban water supply, environmental studies or public administration. E. The top three candidates will be chosen by the Tehama Colusa Canal Authority scholarship committee upon receipt of a completed application form and at least two, but not more than three, recommendations for each candidate. ACWA’s Scholarship Subcommittee will select the final scholarship winner. F. The scholarship will be presented to the recipient’s school in a lump sum of $5,000. Actual payment will be made to the recipient by the school in accordance with regulations used at the selected school concerning such payment. G. Schools selected to participate will be chosen by ACWA’s Scholarship Subcommittee from a list of accredited schools located in California and recommended by the Association’s general membership.
