Computer Science Scholarships

Established in 1978 to memorialize the Society's twelfth president, assists women in obtaining the credentials to reenter the job market as engineers. Eligibility is restricted to women who have been out of the engineering job market as well as out of school for a minimum of two years prior to reentry. Recipient may be entering any undergraduate or graduate year, including doctoral programs, as full or part time students. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made.

Awarded since 1958 to a junior or senior woman engineering or computer science student of outstanding potential and achievement. Dr. Gilbreth, in whose honor the scholarship was named, was well known for the many contributions which she made to the field of industrial engineering and management. Minimum GPA is 3.0. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5/4.0 or above.

Established in 1986 to honor a past chair of SWE Board of Trustees, the scholarship is awarded to a female engineering or computer science student entering her junior or senior year. The applicant must demonstrate financial need. Minimum GPA is 3.0. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5/4.0 or above.

Established in 1971 by the Men's Auxiliary of the Society of Women Engineers and augmented in recent years through significant contributions from the Tremont Trust in memory of Winifred Demarest Gifford White, SWE's first Executive Secretary. The awards are presented to engineering or computer science students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years and who demonstrate outstanding scholarship and financial need. Minimum GPA is 3.0. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5/4.0 or above.

Scholarships are awarded to women engineering students entering their sophomore year who are U.S. citizens. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or above.

This scholarship is presented to a student in her junior or senior year majoring in computer science. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or above.

Established in 1994, these scholarships are awrded to students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year or entering master's students in the fields of computer science or computer engineering. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5/4.0 or above.

SWE Scholarships support women pursuing ABET-accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science in the United States and Mexico. US citizenship required. Availability dependent upon renewals. Open to Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduate students. A few main eligibility points: Only women are eligible. You must be planning to study an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year. You must be planning to attend full time (exceptions are made for reentry and non-traditional applicants). You must not be fully funded for tuition, fees, and books and equivalent.

Applicants must be a member of a minority group, defined by the U.S. Government as: Black (not of Hispanic origin), Hispanic (regardless of race), Asian or Pacific Islander, and American Indian or Alaskan Native. Extra consideration shall be given to members of the Special Libraries Association and to persons who have worked in and for special libraries, but the scholarships are not restricted to these persons. Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for interest in special library work.

The fellowship will be awarded to a graduate student for doctoral dissertation research in the history of computing. The fellowship may be held at the recipient's home academic institution, the Charles Babbage Institute, or any other location with appropriate research facilities. The stipend is $14,000. It is intended for students who have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree except the research and writing of the dissertation. Tomash Fellowship recipients must remain students in good standing throughout the term of their fellowship, but there is no restriction on holding other fellowships, scholarships, or awards concurrent to the Tomash Fellowship. Preference will be given to applicants indicating a need to use CBI materials, planning research in residence at CBI, and willing to make a brief presentation of their research findings to CBI staff. The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars) is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education. Selected scholarship recipients will receive USD $2,500 each to contribute toward tuition or school fees at an accredited post-secondary institution and will be selected based on criteria relating to the program's three pillars: Perseverance, Aspiration, and Community. To be eligible, students must be seeking an undergraduate degree in one of the following categories: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business/entrepreneurship. The application, which requires a letter of recommendation and an academic transcript, opens Wednesday March 8th. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 12 at noon Eastern Standard Time. This scholarship will be awarded to a student attending or planning to attend a graduate school of library and information science. Prospective candidates should have an interest in, and demonstrate a potential for, pursuing a career in Judaica librarianship. Eligible students must be accepted in an ALA accredited library school for the upcoming academic year.
