Architecture Scholarships

This fund provides scholarships for area residents pursuing or continuing education in the building trades, with emphasis to HBA members, their employees and their children.The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area, Inc., chartered in 1970, is a professional trade association encompassing the Michigan counties of Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau, whose members are licensed, where applicable, for the purpose of constructing quality housing, providing associated services and utilizing progressive technologies. The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area, Inc., is an affiliate of the Michigan Association of Home Builders and National Association of Home Builders. Available to residents from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska or Leelanau Counties who are pursuing continuing education related to the home building industry.

Selection Criteria: * Attending five-year accredited college or university offering Architecture * Completed two years of BArch Program * Architecture major * Connecticut connection * Financial need * Academic excellence

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the STEM Majors Application

The California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women and Families is dedicated to inspiring California women to be architects for change, said Maria Shriver. The California Women's Conference Scholars Program furthers this goal for our next generation by helping California undergraduate women complete their undergraduate college education and realize their personal and professional dreams, while giving back to this great state through community service.

Nemetschek Vectorworks values the different backgrounds and experiences of the next generation of designers. We want to reward talented students and support their studies. While we strive to provide funding to as many students as possible, only a limited amount of scholarships are issued each year.The scholarship supports the next generation of creative potential on two levels. Round one winners will move on to compete for the grand prize, The Richard Diehl Award, in round two. Deadline Applications must be received on May 15th by 5:00 pm EST. No exceptions. If the deadline falls on a weekend, the application must be submitted by 5pm on the following Monday. Award Single award in the amount of $10,000 per year for two years. Purpose To promote and encourage the study of architecture by New York City public high school students through a two-year scholarship to supplement tuition and related costs during their freshman and sophomore years at Architecture School. Eligibility Applicants must be current New York City public high school seniors who have been accepted to a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program or a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture program at one of the NAAB-accredited Schools of Architecture in New York State. Eligible schools currently include: Alfred State University City College of New York Cooper Union Cornell University New York Institute of Technology Pratt Institute Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Syracuse University University at Buffalo Other schools or programs other than architecture within these universities are not eligible for this scholarship. Students at NYC Charter High Schools and home-schooled students are also eligible. Students at private, parochial or other schools where tuition is charged are not eligible. Applicants must provide a copy of their final graduation high school transcript in order to accept the award. The second year of the scholarship funding is dependent on demonstrated successful completion of the student’s first year.

Applications must be received on February 1st by 5:00 pm EST. If the application deadline falls on a weekend, the application must be submitted by 5 pm on the following Monday. Purpose Advanced study in any area of architectural investigation which will effectively contribute to the knowledge, teaching or practice of the art and science of architecture. The proposed investigation is to result in a final written work, design project, research paper, or other form of presentation. Eligibility Applicants must be a U.S. citizen engaged in the profession of architecture or a related field and have received their first professional degree at least five years prior to the date of application. Jury Guidelines Proposals should engage in advanced architectural investigation that contributes to the practice, teaching or knowledge of the Art and Science of Architecture. The Brunner Grant is intended to be a prestigious award given to mid-career architects.

Eligibility: The program is open to individuals interested in pursuing or furthering a career in the architectural millwork industry. A written recommendation from a previous academic instructor or employer should accompany the application. Application may be made by students entering or continuing enrollment in a university, state or private college, community college, or trade school, or from individuals already working in the industry. Applicants must: • Be in their senior year of high school, or • Be employed and maintain employment during the educational period, or • Be currently enrolled in a state college/university, private or community college, or a trade school. Basis of Award Selection of a recipient will be on an achievement or merit basis as determined by transcripts and moral and leadership qualities. Finalists will undergo a personal interview (by phone if necessary). The amount of monies available will be determined at the time a recipient is chosen. Scholarship monies will be distributed directly to the school of the student’s choice upon receiving proof of enrollment; however they must be distributed within two years of award or they will be forfeited. Application Submittal and Deadline The application deadline is April 1 for scholarships awarded in May/June.

The American Galvanizers Association’s (AGA) Galvanize the Future: An Edgar K Schutz Memorial Scholarship essay contest was developed to assist future specifiers with the rising cost of a college education. The scholarship is available to full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university in North America studying architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field. Three scholarships are awarded annually ($2,500; $1,500; and $1,000) for the top essays submitted. Any full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate student of any age enrolled at an accredited college or university only in North America. High school students are not eligible to enter this contest. Qualifying majors include architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or other related field.

Established in 1999, the Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program provides post-high school financial assistance to help the sons, daughters or legally adopted children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled on the job. Purpose: The American Road & Transportation Builders Association- Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) “Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program” provides financial assistance to help the sons, daughters or legally adopted children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pursue post-high school education. Scholarships are awarded annually. Eligibility: Eligibility for the scholarship is limited to the sons, daughters or legally adopted children of highway workers who die or have become permanently disabled in roadway work zone accidents. The applicant’s parent must have been employed by a transportation construction firm or a transportation public agency at the time of his or her death or disabling injury. Educational Institution Requirements: The applicant must use the scholarship award to attend a post secondary institution of learning that requires a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (G.E.D.) for admission. This could include any public or private: (a) four-year accredited college or university; (b) two-year accredited college; or (c) vocational technical college or training institution. M.B.A. candidates and master’s degree students in civil engineering, construction management and other construction-related programs will also be considered. Amount of Scholarship More than $100,000 in financial aid has been awarded to worthy students from around the country since inception of the Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship fund. The scholarships, which are competitive, have a value of up to $5,000. Application Criteria and Supporting Materials: All applications must be submitted online and include the following information: Applications that do not provide all of the following information will not be considered. 1. A completed and signed online application form. 2. An official copy of the applicant’s transcript and grade report from the school currently attended or most recently attended. A minimum, cumulative academic performance of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for consideration. 3. At least two letters of recommendation from teachers in support of the candidate’s application. Additional letters from a school administrator, counselor, clergy, work or military supervisor, who can address the qualifications and academic aptitude of the applicant, may also be submitted in support of the candidate, although they are not necessary for consideration. Do not send letters of recommendation from immediate family members, close family friends, blood relatives, or relatives by marriage. 4. Proof of parent’s death in line of duty. (This may be a newspaper clipping with a date the article appeared, a letter from the deceased parent’s former employer, etc.) 5. If parent is permanently incapacitated, submit appropriate documentation, including, but not limited to, a physician certification form stating that the injury was directly related to on-duty job-site injury or documentation from the Social Security Administration disability insurance program. It must show that the disability was work-related, along with a statement of injury from the employer. 6. Proof of guardianship if not living with surviving parent. 7. A typewritten statement, no longer than 200 words, prepared by the applicant that explains his/her reasons for wanting to continue his/her education. For previous scholarship recipients, please provide a reflection on how the scholarship has affected you and your family, and your future educational goals. The personal statement must be updated every application year. 8. A recent high resolution photo of the applicant. Electronic photos are preferred. Files must be 300 dpi or higher and in full-color JPEG, TIFF, or PDF format of less than 10MB. Files can be e-mailed to kwilliams@artba.org. Hard copy photographs are also acceptable, but will not be returned. 9. A completed and signed “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA) forms for the current year. The FAFSA can be obtained at school guidance offices or via the Internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 10. Applicant must provide a copy of his/her most current year’s federal tax return and a copy of parent’s most current year federal tax return. 11. A copy of the acceptance letter from the college, university, technical school, etc. where the applicant plans to attend. 12. A statement providing the approximate cost of annual tuition and room and board to attend school where scholarship will be applied. Disclosure By applying for the ARTBA-TDF “Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship” and providing copies of a personal statement and photograph, the applicant thereby grants permission for ARTBA-TDF to use the statement and photographs for scholarship-related publicity and promotional purposes.

A one-year $3,000 scholarship available annually to an undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student enrolled full-time in a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Minnesota chapter and/or who has graduated from a high school in the chapter area. General Criteria: Available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution that meets one of the following: The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch or The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
