Dr. Hans and Clara Zimmerman Foundation Health Scholarships
Description:Dr. Hans Zimmerman established this foundation to provide financial assistance to individuals in Hawai‘i wishing to pursue an education in a health field. During his long and productive career in Hawai‘i, Dr. Zimmerman encouraged countless individuals to choose careers in medicine. At his death, additional assets came into the foundation so that it is now one of the largest scholarship funds in Hawai‘i. Requirements: Plan to major in a health-related field in a school in the USA (not including sports medicine, psychology unless clinical, social work). Be a college junior, senior or graduate student. Minimum GPA 3.0. Personal statement should include a description of your participation in community service projects or activities.
E.E. Black Scholarship Fund
Description:This fund memorializes E.E. Black, chairman and president of The Gas Company, now Tesoro Hawai‘i. He is credited with revitalizing the company which was in danger of failing when he took charge. To recognize Mr. Black's numerous contributions, Tesoro's then board of directors established this fund in his honor. The scholarships go to dependents of employees at Tesoro Hawai‘i. Requirements: Be a dependent of an employee of Tesoro Hawai‘i or its subsidiaries. Be an undergraduate. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Edward Payson and Bernice Piilani Irwin Scholarship
Description:This scholarship is named in honor of Bernice Pi‘ilani Irwin who was a friend of Queen Lili‘u‘okalani. Bernice was the author of a collection of Hawaiian tales called "In Menehune Land." She also wrote a popular column for the Honolulu Advertiser and later for the Honolulu Times, which was edited by her husband Edwin Irwin. Her column was entitled "Kahuna Nui, the Old Sage of Kaka‘ako," and was a discourse on politics and civic affairs, written in pidgin. The Irwins set up this trust fund to students who, like Bernice, wish to have careers in journalism. Requirements: Major in Journalism or Communications. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student.
Ellen Hamada Fashion Design Scholarship
Requirements:Attend a Fashion Design program within the UH Community College system.
Esther Kanagawa Memorial Art Scholarship
Requirements:Major in Fine Arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics or photography).
Filipino Nurses' Organization of Hawai‘i Scholarship
Requirements: Be of Filipino ancestry. Major in Nursing.
Financial Women International Scholarship
Requirements: Major in Business or a business related field. Be a female. Be a junior, senior or graduate student. Minimum GPA 3.5.
Friends of Hawai‘i Public Housing Scholarship
Description:This scholarship is funded by The Friends of Hawai‘i's Public Housing (FHPH), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting public housing tenants in Hawai‘i. Requirements: Be a resident of a public housing unit in Hawai‘i. Indicate the name of the public housing complex in your personal statement.
George Mason Business Scholarship Fund
Requirements: Major in Business Administration. Be a senior at any college or university in Hawai‘i. Minimum GPA 3.0. Include in your personal statement why you have chosen business as an intended career and how you expect to make a difference in the business world.
Gerrit R. Ludwig Scholarship Fund
Requirements: Graduates of the East Hawai‘i public schools: Hilo, Honoka‘a, Ka‘u, Kea‘au, Laupahoehoe, Pahoa, Waiakea. Preference given to students pursuing a degree in Fine Arts and Classics. Minimum GPA 2.5.
Haseko Training Fund
Requirements: Be an Ewa Beach resident. Attend a program within the UH Community College system.(Preference given to a student in a Marine related program within the UH Community College system).
Hawai'i Pizza Hut Scholarship Fund
Requirements: Demonstrate financial need. Be a resident of the state of Hawaii. Attend a two-year or four-year college or university. GPA (grade point average) of at least 2.5 but no more than 3.5.
