Letourneau Award

The American College of Legal Medicine has an annual Student Writing Competition in which $1,000 cash awards are made for the outstanding original paper on Legal Medicine. All papers submitted will receive consideration for publication in the Journal of Legal Medicine or other medical legal publications. Applicant Criteria 1. Authors must be currently enrolled in an accredited law, medical, podiatry, nursing, dental school, or program of health science or health care administration school in the United States or Canada. 2. No paper which has been previously published in any form will be considered. What is Legal Medicine Legal medicine is the professional and academic discipline which concerns itself with legal aspects of medical science, medical practice and other health care delivery problems. Practitioners of the specialty have training, knowledge and expertise sufficient to address the scope of the specialty from a scholarly, scientific (research) and practical perspective.

Hirsh Award

Henry R. Viets Medical/Grad Student Research Flwp

Requirements: Briefly describe, in abstract form, the question that you propose to study, its association to Myasthenia Gravis or related neuromuscular conditions, and how you still approach the project. Applicants and sponsoring institutions must comply with policies governing the protection of human subjects, the humane care of laboratory animals, and the inlcusion of minorities in study populations.

Ford Fndn Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Awards are made only for study in research-based doctoral programs (PhD or ScD) that lead to an academc career in teaching and research in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, and life sciences. Intended for students who are at or near the beginning of their doctoral study. GRE General Test scores are required from tests taken since October 1, 1993. Awards will not be made for work leading to degrees in practice-based disciplines. Persons who have already earned a doctiral degree are not eligible to apply.

Ford Fndn Dissertation Fellowships for Minorities

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Dissertation Fellowship support is intended for the final year of dissertation writing. Applicants must have completed all requirements for their degree except for the writing of the dissertation including course work, examinations, language requirements, approval of the dissertation proposal/topic, and any other departmental and institutional requirements. Advisors must submit a valid Verification of Doctoral Degree Candidacy by February 14 to confirm that all such degree requirements have been met by that date. Awards not made for work leading to degrees in practice-based disciplines such as education, business, administration, management, health sciences, nursing, home economics, library science, speech pathology, audiology, personnel, guidance, social work, fine arts, or performing arts.

Ford Fndn Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Awards for postdoctoral research are made in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences and life sciences, education, and interdisciplinary programs composed of two or more eligible disciplines. Applicants may not have held their degree for more than seven years at time of application. Approximately 25 one-year felowships offered to scholars in an academic teaching and research career, or those planning such a career.

Kansas Osteopathic Medical Service Scholarship

Recipients must be Kansas residents. For graduate students. Designed to encourage primary care physicians to establish practices in rural areas of Kansas. Recipients receive $15,000 per year for up to four years of study at nationally accredited osteopathic schools. Preference goes to first year students. Recipients return one year of practice for each year of assistance. Applicants must complete a program application and the designated financial aid application.

Eight and Forty Nursing Scholarships

General Requirements: 1. Registered Nurses who are graduates of an accredited school of nursing, or will be by deadline of application. 2. Registered Nurses with a desire to continue their studies in the field of Lung and Respiratory disease nursing either on a part-time or a full-time basis. 3. Evidence of acceptance by an accredited school of nursing which will enable an applicant to fulfill the purpose for which the Scholarship was established. 4. Three (3) letters of reference. 5. After receiving a scholarship, submit a letter of acceptance from your chosen school and a copy of your class registration. 6. A current address is essential. Edward O. Nesheim Memorial Scholarship

The Scholarship may be used at any post secondary institution of higher education in North Dakota granting Associate or higher degrees. Application deadline is April 1 of the year the scholarship is to be awarded. Recipients of the Nesheim Scholarship may apply for renewal upon satisfactory completion of the previous academic year with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Eligibility requirements: 1. Must be a legal resident of North Dakota and a direct descendant (child, grandchild or great-grandchild) of a U.S. veteran who served honorably. Proof of service and lineage are required. 2. Must have maintained a secondary school GPA of 2.75 or higher. 3. Must be pursuing a degree in some phase of Agriculture, Human Nutrition, or Medicine (Medical Dr, PA, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Pharmacy or Chiropractic. 4. Must be a High School senior or a previous Nesheim Scholarship recipient now attending an institution of higher education.

Los Angeles Hillel Council Medical Schp Program

Eligibility is currently limited to: 1. Students attending medical school in the state of California. 2. California residents attending medical school in the United States. 3. Past or present Hillel members at any medical school in the United States.

Scholarships for Emigres in the Health Professions

This program will provide scholarships to emigres from the former Soviet Union to train in medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene, nursing, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy, and physician assistant programs. Applicants must be female and live within a 50-mile radius of New York City. Grants are awarded based on financial need and academic merit.

Friends of Rutland Heights Hospital Scholarship

For students enrolled in a course of study leading to certification and employment in direct patient care, preferably in the Worcester area.
