SkillForge Minority Computer Science Scholarship
SkillForge’s scholarship program aims to support the idea that careers in technology should be available to everyone. Although 70% of black and Hispanic teens recently surveyed expressed at least some enthusiasm for a career in the IT field, students who are economically or socially disadvantaged are severely under-represented in those graduating with Computer Science or other related degrees. And they are even further under-represented at major tech companies. We think that needs to change.
Our scholarship program aims to facilitate the entrance of diverse and/or economically or socially disadvantaged students into college and the Information Technology professions.
SkillForge will award $1000 each year to a selected student pursuing a degree in Information Systems or Computer Science.
USENIX Student Scholars Program
Description:To provide financial assistance to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in subjects that would be of interest to the USENIX community. Eligibility:Applicants must be nominated by a faculty member to receive this award. Faculty members must submit a statement describing the outstanding qualities of the nominee, why this nominee is deserving of the scholarship, and how the nominee might contribute to the USENIX community in the long term.
Imagine America High School Scholarship
The Imagine America Foundation created its Imagine America High School Scholarship Program in 1998 to help provide scholarships for high school students. This annual scholarship program has helped thousands of high school seniors afford a career education at hundreds of career schools across the United States. Each year, every high school in the United States and Puerto Rico may nominate up to five graduating seniors to receive a $1,000 Imagine America scholarship!
GeneTex for Education
GeneTex believes in accelerating scientific advancement and the notion that the genesis of future discoveries begins with the support of young scientists now. The GeneTex Scholarship Program will award a $2000 (USD) scholarship to students pursuing a STEM undergraduate or graduate degree. The scholarship will be awarded to one student twice a year.
AISES Google Travel Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA - Applicants MUST meet all of the following criteria: 1. Must have a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA). 2. Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited four year college/university, or a full- time student at a two year college enrolled in a program leading to an academic degree. 3. Majoring in one of the following college disciplines at a accredited 4-year college or university: * Computer Science * Computer Engineering *Other majors will be considered if it is evident that the applicant demonstrates a strong academic course of study that includes a high volume of computer science related courses and/or computer science related research. 4. Must be a member of an American Indian tribe, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian or otherwise considered to be an American Indian by the tribe with which affiliation is claimed; or is at least 1/4 American Indian blood; or is at least 1/4 Alaskan Native; or considered to be an Alaskan Native by an Alaskan Native group to which affiliation is claimed. 5. LITA/Ex Libris Student Writing Award
The LITA/Ex Libris Student Writing Award is given for the best unpublished manuscript on a topic in the area of libraries and information technology written by a student or students enrolled in an ALA-accredited library and information studies graduate program.The purpose of this award, established July 2000, is to recognize superior student writing and to enhance the professional development of students through publication of the winning article in LITA's refereed journal, Information Technology and Libraries ( ITAL).The winner will receive $1,000 and a certificate. In the case of joint authorship, the award will be split among the authors and each will receive a certificate. The winning article will be published in a future issue of ITAL.The article can be written on any aspect of libraries and information technology, including digital libraries, metadata, authorization and authentication, electronic journals and electronic publishing, telecommunications, distributed systems and networks, computer security and intellectual property rights, technical standards, geographic information systems, software engineering, universal access to technology, futuristic forecasting, library consortia, vendor relations, and technology and the arts.Manuscripts will be selected based on the following criteria: relevance to libraries and information technology, timeliness, originality of ideas, persuasiveness of arguments, quality of writing, clarity of presentation, and contribution to the continuing education of the LITA membership. Manuscripts may be applicable to a variety of library settings, including public, academic, special libraries, school media centers, and library and information studies programs. Unselected manuscripts will be returned to the author(s).
LITA/Christian (Chris) Larew Memorial Scholarship in Library and Information Technology
The LITA/Christian (Chris) Larew Memorial Scholarship, begun in 1999, is awarded jointly on an annual basis currently in the amount of $3,000, by the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, and Baker & Taylor. The scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons into the library and information technology field, who plan to follow a career in that field, and who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a vision in pursuit of library and information technology. This scholarship is for study in an ALA Accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) program.Candidates should illustrate their qualifications for this scholarship with a statement indicating the nature of their library experience, letters of reference, and a personal statement of the applicant's view of what he or she can bring to the profession, emphasizing experiences that indicate a potential for leadership and commitment to library technology. Candidates must not have earned more than 12 hours towards a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA Accredited MLS program. Economic need is considered when all other criteria are equal.The winner is announced and introduced, if present, at the LITA President's Program during the Annual Conference of the American Library Association.
LITA/LSSI Minority Scholarship in Library and Information Technology
The LITA/LSSI Minority Scholarship, established in 1994, is awarded annually by the Library and Information Technology Association, a division of the American Library Association, and Library Systems and Services, Inc., in the amount of $2,500.00.The scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons into the library and automation field who plan to follow a career in that field; who demonstrate potential in, and a strong commitment to the use of automated systems in libraries; and who are qualified members of a principal minority group (American Indian or Alaskan native, Asian or Pacific Islander, African-American, or Hispanic). The recipient must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen. This scholarship is for study in an ALA Accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) program.Candidates should illustrate their qualifications for this scholarship with a statement indicating the nature of library experience, by letters of reference, and by the personal statement of the applicant's view of what he or she can bring to the profession, emphasizing experiences which indicate a potential for leadership and commitment to library automation.
