Jackson, Michael Scholarship

Michael Lascaris Scholarship Trust

The non-profit Michael Lascaris Scholarship Trust was founded in August 1999 and is based on the Last Will and Testament of benefactor Michael Lascaris. To date, it has awarded 1660 scholarships to Greeks from Greece, Cyprus and Istanbul for the purpose of learning the English language. The Trust, with headquarters in Chicago USA, intends to grant a further 120 scholarships for the 2010-11 Academic Year.The scholarships are only for English language instruction at all levels from Beginner up to and including the Certificate of Proficiency (Universities of Cambridge and Michigan) and are applicable to candidates of all ages, provided they have had their 12th birthday. Candidates must also have Greek ancestry and be Greek Orthodox. The scholarships cover all tuition and educational materials for one year, with the possibility of renewal for further years for those recipients who are conscientious in their study and attendance.The lessons take place at the Trust’s two authorized institutes, namely the Estia Neas Smyrnis English Language School at Nea Smyrnis and the Institute for Foreign Languages Dessy Topouzides at Voula.

Students attending UNCF member colleges and universities and majoring in communications, journalism or English are eligible to apply. Students must be in their junior or senior year and have a grade point average of 3.O or better. Martin J. Svaglic Humanities Scholarship

Two $2,500 per year scholarships will be awarded to qualified new freshmen or transfer students who have been admitted into one of the following areas in the humanities: classical studies, communication, English, fine arts, history, modern languages, philosophy, theology or theatre. Prospective candidates must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. New freshmen must: have a minimum 26 on the ACT or an 1170 on the SAT; and be admitted to Loyola prior to February 25. All qualified, admitted students should complete the application and it must be returned by March 1. The recipients will be notified by April 1.

Norbert H. & Joan LaSee Scholarship

(2 scholarships of $608 each for Marshfield High School;2 scholarships of $608 each for Columbus Catholic High School)Mr. & Mrs. LaSee established their scholarship fund with theCommunity Foundation in 1998. IFEC Scholarships for Foodservice Communication Careers

IFEC scholarships are intended to assist students pursuing careers as writers, editors, public relations and marketing communication practitioners and closely related areas within the foodservice industry. EligibilityTo be considered eligible for an award, a student must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a post-secondary, degree-granting educational institution in the U.S. and have an expected graduation date that is after December 31, 2011.The student must show evidence of training, skill and interest in both foodservice and the communication arts. The combination of studies and/or work experience in both the foodservice field and the communication arts is necessary. Applicants should have a strong academic record, good character references and demonstrate financial need. Majors considered applicable in the foodservice area include culinary arts, hotel, restaurant and institutional management, hospitality management, dietetics, nutrition, food science and technology, and related studies. Applicable majors in the communication area include journalism, public relations, mass communication, English, broadcast journalism, marketing, photography, graphic arts, and related studies.

Hillsdale College Scholarship

AFSCME/UNCF/Harvard University LWP Union Scholars Program

The future is in the hands of those with the ability and desire to change the world. People like you. That is why we are co-sponsoring the AFSCME/UNCF/Harvard University LWP Union Scholars Program. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), has joined with Harvard University and UNCF to let those of you who qualify experience what it is like to be part of the labor movement. You can work on the front lines of a real union organizing campaign, where you will talk to workers about gaining a voice on the job, fair wages and benefits for themselves and their families ...by joining a union. You will get an opportunity to do the day-to-day work of outreach to workers by phone and on home visits, campaign research and material development. But the best part is that you will have a chance to make a difference in the lives of people.
