Available to English majors who qualify as non-traditional students.

Awards to English majors.

Available to students majoring in English, Sociology and Social Work or Business Management. Must be a citizen of the U.S. and have high academic standing.

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the Other Majors Application

Members of one of the following groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, or American Indians, and are U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. Candidates must have completed all course work leading to the doctorate and must be considering a career in college teaching in one of the following fields: Business (Family Business, Sustainable Organizations); Education (Educational Philosophy and Foundations, Research Methods, Higher Education and Student Affairs); English; Chemistry; History (African American, California, Islamic World, 18th-19th Century Europe); Information Systems; Mathematics; Nursing (Adult Surgical Nursing); Organizational Development/Behavior; Philosophy; Public Administration; or Theology and Religious Studies. Pending funding, the Program provides a stipend of $32,000 and limited support for relocation and research-related expenses. The University of San Francisco invites applications from underrepresented scholars for the USF Dissertation Fellowship Program. Program: Scholars complete the dissertation and initiate an ongoing program of scholarly or creative work, and become familiar with the usual service responsibilities of a university faculty member. Scholars teach one course in the discipline each semester and serve the University in various capacities. Additional support includes office space, computer and library privileges. This journalist scholarship program consists of one $2,500 scholarship, made payable directly to the winning student’s educational institute. The winning student must also be able to attend AWMF’s Gracies Awards Luncheon on June 22, 2015 in New York City to receive the scholarship. Female undergraduate and graduate students studying media, journalism, English, communications and related fields are encouraged to apply. Submission Requirements: Please submit a writing piece of 750 to 1,000 words, focusing on the theme Opening Doors to Opportunity for 25 Years. The piece should center on the accomplishments that have taken place since ADA passed in 1990 and the differences it has made in the lives of people with disabilities. The piece can be written in first or third person. If you have a personal connection to the subject matter, please indicate either within the essay or via cover sheet. Societal views, mobility, advocacy, etc.  What were some of the challenges that people with disabilities experienced?  What is it like now, 25 years later? What are the differences/advancements?  How have the views of Americans changed toward those with disabilities? The scholarship is intended to provide total financial support for highly-motivated minority students (African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic, Native American and people of color) who are citizens for four years of study who wish to pursue a career in the newspaper industry. This scholarship is for four-years of study in any one of the following areas of study: Journalism, Mass Communications, Economics, English, Accounting, Political Science, History, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Advertising. Cox Enterprises Inc., a multi media company headquartered in Atlanta, offers a full paid, four year scholarship to high school seniors who will graduate from the metro school system served by one of the following newspapers: West Palm Beach Post (Florida), Austin-American Statesman (Texas), and Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Georgia). Only one scholarship is offered each calendar year and only one newspaper is selected to administer the program.

This program is open to students currently enrolled in an HBCU located in Tennessee having a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and pursuing majors in the fields of engineering, design, marketing, business, communications, public relations, finance or law, accounting history and English.
