Earth Science Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the STEM Majors Application

Eligible applicants for Hertz Fellowships must be students of the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America, and who are willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency (see our Moral Commitment section).College seniors wishing to pursue the Ph.D. degree in any of the fields of particular interest to the Foundation, as well as graduate students already in the process of doing so, may apply.We screen Fellowship applicants for qualities the Foundation believes are essential ingredients of future professional accomplishment and/or reasonably reliable leading indicators of future professional success. These include:• Exceptional Intelligence and Creativitywith particular emphasis on those aspects pertinent to technical endeavors• Excellent Technical Educationevidenced not only by transcripts and reference reports from senior technical professionals, but also by the results of a personal, technical interview• Orientation and Commitment to the applications of the physical sciences as is typical of most applicants• Extraordinary Accomplishment in technical or related professional studies which may offset slightly lower academic records, or add luster to outstanding ones• Features of Temperament and Character conducive to high attainment as a technical professional the assessment of which is difficult, albeit important to the Foundation• Appropriate moral and ethical values of considerable interest to the Foundation in the furthering of our basic goals• Leverage what difference the award of the Hertz Fellowship is likely to make in the kind, quality, and/or personal creativity of the student's graduate researchWe do not support students pursuing advanced professional degrees other than the Ph.D., such as enrollees in M.D., LLD or MBA programs, although we will support the Ph.D. portion of a joint M.D./Ph.D. study program.

he ASDSO Scholarship Program, established in 1992, awards annual undergraduate scholarships to U.S. citizens enrolled in accredited programs in engineering or related fields and planning careers related to the design, construction, or operation of dams. Scholarships have ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 in recent years. Successful recipients must be U.S. citizens and enrolled full-time at the senior level during the following year's academic term in an accredited civil engineering program, or in a related field as determined by ASDSO, and must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology or geotechnical disciplines, or in another discipline related to the design, construction and operation of dams. Minimum Criteria Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 for the first three years of college and be recommended by their academic advisor. Basis for Award The basis for selection will generally follow these guidelines: Academic Scholarship Financial Need Work Experience/Activities Essay Announcement of successful candidates will be made in July of each year.

Students are encouraged to submit an essay on why they believe biotechnology will change the future of therapeutics and scientific endeavors. Essays should be no more than 250 words and include a video of 3 minutes or less detailing accomplishments and interests.

Scholars will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and must meet the following guidelines: * Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident and a resident of the State of Connecticut * Be in the senior year at a Connecticut high school at the time of application * Attend an accredited college or university within the State of Connecticut on a full-time basis * Be enrolled in an eligible academic program * Maintain a B average or 3.0 GPA throughout high school and college * Be in the top 20% of his or her graduating class and have scored at least 1000 combined in the Scholastic Aptitude Tests * Must work within the State of Connecticut for two years following graduation Service Obligation Following Graduation: Scholars must begin employment in the State of Connecticut within 12 months after receiving their associate's or bachelor's degrees. Automatic extensions for commencement of the employment requirement of up to four years will be granted for those who choose to immediately pursue an advanced degree in the fields of science and technology on a full-time basis. The Connecticut work requirement will be met if the Scholar meets at least one of the following within five years of graduation: * Is continuously employed with no breaks in service for 24 months * Completes a total of 3,900 hours of work during a period of time not less than two years nor more than five years immediately following completion of post-secondary education

The scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors in California. To be eligible, a student must first have entered a regional or county science fair with a project related to any of the marine sciences -- geology, biology, meteorology, chemistry, etc. -- or to marine technology. (For information about entering their local science fair, students should talk with their science teachers or department heads.) In addition, the student must have applied to (and must be the following fall have enrolled in) a college or university in California.

Peters Foundation, Corp., is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides a limited amount of scholarship grants to high school seniors pursuing studies in the field of environment, conservation and forestry at any accredited college or studies in primary or secondary education at a Christian college. The scholarships are a total award that range from $10,000 to $20,000 over a four-year period ($2,500 to $5,000 per year) that may be for tuition and are administered at the determination of the selection committee of the Foundation. The selection committee determines scholarship amount based on economic need, academic potential and other analysis. Students receiving scholarships will be subject to reporting requirements to the Foundation. Applicants must attend colleges located in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona or Colorado. The selection committee will perform a Phase I application analysis. Selected applicants will be invited to complete a Phase II application. The selection committee will subsequently perform a Phase II application analysis.

The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ (officially recognized by the U.S. EPA) has engaged tens of thousands of young volunteers (kids, teens, and college-age youth) from around the world in environmental cleanup and conservation projects since 1999. This program has received multiple awards from the City of Albuquerque, a "Best Community Impact" award from Eastern Kentucky University, and is featured on thousands of web sites. The goals of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ are to: Elevate youth into leadership roles by engaging them in environmental cleanup and conservation projects, Empower young people to rebuild the environmental and social well-being of our communities, Improve local living conditions for both citizens and wildlife through education, activism, and action. Here's how to become an official Apprentice Ecologist and be considered for a scholarship: Conduct your own environmental stewardship project. Take a few digital photos of your project in action. Write an essay about your project and what it meant to you. Register and upload your favorite project photo along with your essay. After uploading your project photo and essay, we will publish your work on our Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists and provide links to download an official Apprentice Ecologist heat transfer (for T-shirt). Please only upload an image that you took or one that you have permission to post (this avoids copyright problems). If you do not have a project photo, simply upload the NWP logo image along with your essay. An NWP tote bag (made with organic cotton) will be awarded to the authors of the 10 best essays on an annual basis. School and community groups, especially those working with at-risk and disadvantaged youth, are highly encouraged to participate. Three scholarships totaling $850 will be awarded annually to the authors of the three best Apprentice Ecologist essays. The top author will also receive a personalized crystal award courtesy of Crown Awards & Trophies. By registering and submitting your essay, you will automatically be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are available to any student (ages 13 to 21) who is a candidate for a degree/diploma at a primary (middle school), secondary (high school), or accredited post-secondary (undergraduate at college or university) educational institution from any country around the world. The award covers 1) tuition and fees to enroll in or attend an accredited post-secondary (undergraduate or graduate at college or university) educational institution and/or 2) fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses. Applicants should embody the spirit of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ by demonstrating personal leadership, initiative, and environmental stewardship in their project. Essays will be judged by a committee of Nicodemus Wilderness Project board members, volunteers, and past Apprentice Ecologist award winners. Please see tips for additional elements that the committee considers important when judging essays. While there is no minimum/maximum length for essays, most of our past winners have written essays that ranged from about 750 to 1,500 words long.
