Chemical Engineering Scholarships

The scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors in California. To be eligible, a student must first have entered a regional or county science fair with a project related to any of the marine sciences -- geology, biology, meteorology, chemistry, etc. -- or to marine technology. (For information about entering their local science fair, students should talk with their science teachers or department heads.) In addition, the student must have applied to (and must be the following fall have enrolled in) a college or university in California.

To qualify, candidates must be: - African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or America Indian; - a U.S. citizen or permanent residents of the U.S.; - a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community college; - high academic achievers in chemistry or chemical science (GPA 3.0 or better; - able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according to the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). - a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology.

To be eligible for a Project SEED scholarship, high school senior students must have worked at least one summer at a science institute under the Project SEED program. Scholarships are restricted to students who plan to major in a chemical science or engineering field such as chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, materials science, or some other closely related major. The scholarships are intended to assist former SEED participants in their transition from high school to college and consist of up to $5,000. Project SEED scholarships are nonrenewable and only awarded to first-year college students. Selection is based on achievement in school, success in the Project SEED program, financial need, and intended chemical-related field of scientific study. ACS Technical Divisions sponsor scholarship programs for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology and teaching. The Asian Pacific Community Fund partners with Verizon to financially assist students in their pursuit of higher education as they face the challenge of significantly rising costs of obtaining a college degree. These awards will support those who excel academically, are leaders amongst their peers and are making a positive impact in their communities. Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major and currently enrolled in an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) institution in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with one of these institutions are eligible. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application. Scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to full-time graduate students currently working toward a master's degree in an eligible major. Graduate students are not required to be enrolled in an HBCU institution. Distance-learning or online programs will not qualify. Eligibility: NOTE: Degree-seeking candidates must be U.S. citizens. Undergraduate students must be currently enrolled and attending either a two-year or four-year accredited HBCU institution in the United States. Students also may be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with one of these institutions. Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomore and junior students (minimum second-year students only) enrolled full-time in an eligible degree-seeking program. Eligible majors include the following or related STEM subjects: electrical, aerospace, systems or computer engineering; computer engineering technology; computer information systems; information systems management; computer science; physics; or mathematics. Scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to students currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the hard science or technology disciplines directly related to the mission of AFCEA while employed by a small business. Applicants must be a young professional (age 40 or under) with demonstrated entrepreneurial talents or accomplishments. Undergraduate candidates must be at least second-year students attending an accredited college or university in the United States. Graduate students must have completed at least two postgraduate-level classes prior to the deadline date. The scholarship is intended for students attending school on a part-time basis, whether at a two-year community college or accredited university institution. Part-time status will be defined as enrollment in at least two classes (semester-equivalent) with a declared major in a science or technology degree program or a declared major in a business field with a science or technology minor. Student enrolled in on-line or distance-learning programs will be eligible, as long as all other criteria are met. Eligible students must also be currently employed (see above). Eligibility: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, attending an accredited college or university in the United States as either a traditional or distance-learning student, and working toward a degree in the following C4I-related fields of electrical, computer, chemical, systems or communications engineering; computer science; physics; mathematics; technology management; computer information systems; management information systems or related fields. Business majors with a minor in science or technology are also eligible. An overall GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale or better is required.
