Weber Specialties Company Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Weber Specialties Company located in Schoolcraft, Michigan. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Kalamazoo County high school senior or college undergraduate or graduating or graduated from a Kalamazoo County high school. Planning to earn a certificate or two- or four-year degree in a manufacturing curriculum such as manufacturing technology, manufacturing engineering or integrated supply management. Enrollment may be full or part time. Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement for application.

Roy G. Walters Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is attending high school within Kalamazoo County. Must be planning to enroll in an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall. Must have been involved in athletics as well as school and community activities. Applicant must demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

John C. Volderauer Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is two-fold: To provide financial assistance for qualified students enrolled in a Radiology Technology, Ultrasound, Sonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or Nuclear Medicine Technology program; and, to provide supplemental funds for postgraduate education to qualified registered radiologic technologists. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Undergraduate applicants must be permanent residents of Kalamazoo County or receive their clinical or didactic training in a facility within Kalamazoo County; pursuing a degree in Radiologic Technology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Nuclear Medicine Technology or Ultrasound Sonography; academic achievement. Applicants requesting assistance for postgraduate education must be permanent residents of Kalamazoo County who are currently employed full or part-time as a Registered Radiology Technologist or must be current Registered Radiology Technologists permanently employed full or part-time by an agency within Kalamazoo County.

CIS/Kalamazoo Public Education Foundation Scholarship

The Kalamazoo Public Education Foundation Scholarship, established by the directors and officers of the Kalamazoo Public Education Foundation, is awarded annually to a Kalamazoo Public Schools senior planning to enter the field of education. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Kalamazoo Central High School, Loy Norrix High School or Kalamazoo Public Schools alternative high school senior planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree leading to a career in education. Planning to enroll full time in an accredited college or university. Must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in core curriculum classes through the first semester of the senior year in high school and show evidence of participation in school and community activities. Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement for application.

Kalamazoo Science Foundation Scholarship

The Kalamazoo Science Foundation Scholarship was established in 1958 to aid promising Kalamazoo area high school students who might not otherwise be able to afford an education in science, mathematics or engineering to develop their potential. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior or graduate who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is a graduating high school senior or graduate of a Kalamazoo County high school; planning to attend a four-year university or college full time and major in science, mathematics or engineering (does not include architecture, nursing or allied health professions). Minimum 3.5 GPA for high school seniors or a minimum 3.0 GPA for college undergraduates. Demonstration of financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Kreager Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 by the Kreager family to provide financial assistance to college-bound graduating high school seniors. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a high school within Kalamazoo County; planning to attend an accredited institution for vocational/technical training or a two- or four-year degree either part or full time. Must have suffered the loss of a parent or parents through death or abandonment after infancy. Demonstration of financial need according to the FAFSA; Preference may be given to graduating high school seniors from Gull Lake and South Haven High Schools, but this is not a requirement to apply.

Ann N. MacGregor Scholarship

This fund was established in 2007, through a gift from the estate of Ann N. MacGregor, to provide scholarship assistance for incoming freshmen, undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a visual arts curriculum in a degree-granting program. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior or graduate who is a Kalamazoo County resident or is graduating or graduated from a Kalamazoo County high school; planning to enroll or currently enrolled full time in a degree-granting college or university as an undergraduate or graduate student in a visual arts program. Current undergraduate or graduate students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA. Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need according to the FAFSA.

Kalamazoo Rotary Scholarship

The Kalamazoo Rotary Scholarship, established to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Kalamazoo Rotary Club, primarily provides scholarship assistance for classroom teachers pursuing a master's degree in the field of education.Eligibility Criteria:Must be an employed classroom teacher who is a resident of Kalamazoo County or a classroom teacher who is employed by a public, private or charter school within Kalamazoo County. Enrolled or planning to enroll full time or part time in a master's degree program in the field of education at a regionally accredited institution. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA as an undergraduate if the number of graduate credits earned is less than nine, or a minimum 3.5 GPA as a graduate student. Financial need may be a consideration, but is not a requirement for application.Application Requirements:The following must be submitted to the Kalamazoo Community Foundation:eGRANT scholarship application and cover page (automatically generated by eGRANT upon completion of the application).Activities and Employment History Form must be filled out and attached to the eGRANT application.Essay, not to exceed 500 typewritten words, must be written and attached to the eGRANT application. Address why you merit consideration for this scholarship. Include how extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences and leadership roles have helped to prepare you for your choice of study. In addition, include why you selected your choice of study and your long-term and short-term plans following your master's degree.

Schwenk Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Schwenk to provide financial assistance to people pursuing a degree in elementary education for the purpose of promoting quality preparation in a field that has a major impact on our youth. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a Kalamazoo County High School; planning to pursue an elementary education degree; evidence of leadership and academic achievement; full-time enrollment. Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement for application.

Peter and Inez Schonveld Scholarship

This scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Inez Schonveld to provide scholarship assistance for post-secondary education to graduating high school seniors and graduates of the Kalamazoo Public School District. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Must be a current graduating high school senior or past graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Loy Norrix High School or an alternative high school that is a part of the Kalamazoo Public School District. Applicants must demonstrate determination and good citizenship and enroll part or full time in a vocational, technical or degree-granting educational institution. Must demonstrate financial need according to the FAFSA or an alternative process, if past circumstances prevent the applicant from filing a FAFSA.

Duane Roberts Scholarship

The Duane Roberts Scholarship was established in memory of Duane Roberts, a Kalamazoo Public Schools graduate, community activist, and KPS Board of Education member, to provide scholarship support to KPS minority students. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Kalamazoo Central High School, Loy Norrix High School or Kalamazoo Public Schools alternative high school senior or graduate of KPS; minority; demonstrate a commitment to social justice. Planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college/university as either a full-time or part-time student in an undergraduate or graduate program. Able to demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Clarence L. Remynse Scholarship

Clarence L. Remynse, a native of Kalamazoo, was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Kalamazoo College. Upon graduation from Kalamazoo College, he stayed in Kalamazoo to eventually establish the Remynse Construction Company. Upon his death in 1989, a scholarship fund bearing his name was established at the Kalamazoo Community Foundation along with a legacy of education, hard work and devotion to community. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA You are eligible to apply for the Clarence L. Remynse Scholarship if you are a graduating high school senior who has been a permanent resident of Kalamazoo County for a minimum of 12 months prior to application or a graduating high school senior who has been enrolled in a high school within Kalamazoo County for a minimum of 12 months prior to application. Must demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); Plan to enroll full time in a regionally accredited college or university in a course of study that leads to a bachelor's degree in business, science (including mathematics and engineering), law, education, psychology or medicine. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident Alien (green card holder). Must demonstrate good citizenship qualities, high moral character and potential for leadership and academic success. Selection of the scholarship semifinalists is based on: 60 percent for activities, work experience, essay and personal recommendations; 40 percent for academic achievement. While there is no minimum GPA required for scholarship consideration most recipients have had a GPA of at least 3.0. In addition only semifinalists who demonstrate financial need according to the FAFSA and meet all other eligibility criteria will ultimately be considered.

Evelyn Prince Memorial Scholarship

The Evelyn Prince Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family of Prince, an avid golfer who twice participated in the state championships for Kalamazoo Central High School. She was a straight-A student and spent one summer as a congressional page in Washington D.C. It was her love of travel that took her to Wolfsburg, Germany as a 17-year-old foreign exchange student in 1999, where she died in an auto accident. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Female graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a Kalamazoo County high school or a high school that participates in the Greater Kalamazoo High School Women's Golf Tournament. Must have been a member of the high school varsity golf team for at least her junior and/or senior year; planning to pursue a four-year degree as a full-time student; minimum 2.5 GPA; demonstration of school and community involvement.

Partners in Education Scholarship

The Partners in Education Scholarship was established in 2006 by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's board of trustees for the purpose of investing in the higher education of students who reside in or attend a high school within Kalamazoo County. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a Kalamazoo County high school. Must be planning to enroll full time in a bachelor's degree program at a regionally accredited college or university within the State of Michigan. Must have a GPA of 2.80 to 3.80 and school and community involvement. Financial need is required.

The Montague Myers Scholarship

A graduate of Thornapple Kellogg High School, Montague Myers attended design schools in Detroit and Los Angeles. He owned interior design studios in Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne, Indiana and was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. This scholarship was established in Myer's memory in 1996 to provide financial assistance to individuals who have been orphaned, abused, abandoned or neglected as children, and who desire to pursue education beyond high school. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Kalamazoo County resident while attending high school or a student enrolled in or graduated from a high school within Kalamazoo County. Kalamazoo County residents who have earned their GED also are eligible. Must have been orphaned abused abandoned or neglected as a child according to legal documentation. Planning to pursue vocational or technical training or a two- or four-year degree. May be a part- or full-time student. Must be able to demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Mildred McConkey Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship provides financial support to a senior from Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix High School and is intended to recognize noteworthy improvement during the student's three to four years of high school course work in English composition. Consideration also is given to the qualities of enthusiasm, creativity, positive expression, clear communication, determination and perseverance. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA The applicant must be a graduating Kalamazoo Central or Loy Norrix High School senior planning to enroll full time in an accredited college or university. The applicant must have shown noteworthy improvement during his/her three to four years of high school course work in English thereby having achieved exceptional ability in English composition.

Wade and Clio Van Valkenburg Scholarship

The honorable Wade Van Valkenburg was a Circuit Court judge in Kalamazoo for six years. He was concerned about the youth in this community, especially those who have had to overcome circumstances or obstacles that may otherwise hinder them from seeking training or higher education. This Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 through the Wade Van Valkenburg Trust to provide educational scholarships for students in Kalamazoo County. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Kalamazoo County resident who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a vocational, technical or trade school or a two- or four-year college or university full or part time. Must have, either through a plea bargain or conviction, been found guilty of a criminal offense and be able to document how he or she has overcome adversity and/or obstacles in his or her life. Must demonstrate financial need.

Bhargava Family Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Bhargava family, recognizes graduating high school seniors who demonstrate high academic performance as well as involvement in school, community and work activities. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating high school senior who is a Kalamazoo County resident or attends a Kalamazoo County high school. Must be planning to enroll in an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall. Must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and 28 ACT or 1240 SAT. Must demonstrate leadership abilities and commitment to school and community involvement. Preference may be given to applicants who are Asian Indian, attend Portage Public Schools, or attend KAMSC (listed in order of preference) but this is not a requirement for application. Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement for application.

AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Women over the age of 50 by March 30. Low-income. Pursuing technical or vocational education, or a associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Enrolled in an accredited school or technical program within six months of the scholarship award date. Financial need will be a consideration.

AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Graduating seniors must show documented proof of AAA Michigan Safety Patrol participation (letter from elementary school principal or a copy of a safety patrol certificate), good academic standing and a strong record of participation in the community and extracurricular activities. One application per school is accepted. Application should be submitted to student’s high school by April 12.
