Advertising Scholarships

The scholarship is intended to provide total financial support for highly-motivated minority students (African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic, Native American and people of color) who are citizens for four years of study who wish to pursue a career in the newspaper industry. This scholarship is for four-years of study in any one of the following areas of study: Journalism, Mass Communications, Economics, English, Accounting, Political Science, History, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Advertising. Cox Enterprises Inc., a multi media company headquartered in Atlanta, offers a full paid, four year scholarship to high school seniors who will graduate from the metro school system served by one of the following newspapers: West Palm Beach Post (Florida), Austin-American Statesman (Texas), and Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Georgia). Only one scholarship is offered each calendar year and only one newspaper is selected to administer the program.

Eligibility Criteria:•Must be of Hispanic background•Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico•Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year•Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time undergraduate or graduate student for the upcoming academic year•Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale•Must demonstrate financial need•Must be studying a major that falls under the Business Majors Application

Amount: $ 3,000 /Renewable Criteria •Junior or Senior university classification by the Fall Semester •Open to Business majors including : Accounting, Communications, General Business, Economics, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Public Relations or Sales majors •Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident •Must be of Hispanic descent •Must have a 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale •Maintain full-time enrollment status (12 hours) for the duration of the scholarship period •Provide two letters of recommendation highlighting leadership potential •Scholar must attend ¡Adelante!'s Annual Leadership Institute in San Antonio, TX (Sponsorship to attend is included along with the scholarship) •Must attend a Partnering University

Scholarship funds must be used to pay for qualified expenses, including tuition, books and on-campus room and board for the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarship Guidelines Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours in undergraduate studies leading to a career in advertising, marketing, graphic design or digital media; The student must display excellent oral and written communication skills; Scholarship funds must be used for tuition at a Florida institution; AAF-Orlando prefers that students have an overall 3.0 grade point average, but those students with financial need who fall below a 3.0 are encouraged to apply; The student must agree to assist AAF-Orlando and Ad 2 Orlando on projects; The student must write a letter detailing their career goals and outlining their planned involvement with the Advertising Community; The student must complete an application and submit it with a letter of recommendation from one of the student’s professors. A letter from an internship supervisor is recommended, but not required. AAF-Orlando encourages participation in Ad 2 Orlando but does not restrict scholarship applicants to members. The student may be asked to interview with the AAF-Orlando Scholarship Committee during the application process.
