Engineering Scholarships

Undergraduate or graduate engineering student in good standing at Michigan Tech University. This scholarship is available to all Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (REAC) Members and Club Officers. Please specify on the application if you are a member or officer of REAC. Junior or Senior college student pursuing an undergraduate degree in a professional field that has direct applications in the passenger rail sector. Student pursuing a four or five year Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Information Technology undergraduate degree program at an accredited institution who has demonstrated an interest in railroad Signaling and Communications. Priority is given to AREMA C&S Functional Group family members, including grandchildren. If you’re pursuing a career in computer science, information technology, management information systems, computer engineering, or another related field, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP) would like to invite you to apply for our annual Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) program. Please download the application for specific requirements. Now in its eighth year, the program has awarded nearly $100,000 in aid to more than 60 women across the country. WITS offers support for women who are attending or planning to attend a two- or four-year college within the United States for the upcoming school year. VIP awards multiple scholarships of up to $2,500 per recipient. Primary preference will be given to students attending universities in North Texas and in the State of Texas only. Students must have a 3.0 GPA at the time of application. First preference will be given to employees or child/spouse of an employee of an OPC member company. Secondary preference will be given to students seeking degrees in fields of study related to the steel industry, e.g., metallurgical engineering. Students must have a 3.0 GPA for university studies or a 2.5 GPA for a two-year technical school studies at the time of application.

The Cognizant Making the Future scholarship program recognizes today’s inspiration as tomorrow’s innovation. The goal of the scholarship program is to expand the pool of students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields who are encouraged “to be makers of things, not just consumers of things” as highlighted by President Obama at the National Academies of Science in 2009. Cognizant is committed to preparing the next generation with the skills they will need to be active participants in an environment that will become increasingly dominated by technology. This is a design-based scholarship and candidates will be required to submit documentation of a hands-on project that illustrates both creativity and innovation. The New York Hall of Science will serve as the Chair of the Selection Committee which will also include the Maker Education Collaborative, Cognizant and other organizations that support making initiatives. Criteria: Students are eligible to submit a project for consideration if they are:  Pursuing a career in a STEM field.  A citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States.  Eligible to enroll or currently enrolled at a two or four year accredited college or university with a full course of undergraduate study or a vocational-technical school.  A student in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average. Amount: Award amounts are $5,000. The award will be payable to the institution earmarked for the account of the student. The award is non-transferable and the recipient may not receive cash. The Washington State Chapter of Women in Aviation, International offers a $1,500 scholarship for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in memory of Yukiko Howell. Yukiko taught math, science, and Japanese language for many years at Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Washington. After obtaining her private pilot certificate, Yukiko taught weekly aviation lessons at her school, including the basics of flying. She advocated aviation in her lessons, emphasizing math and science proficiency as a means to achieve an exciting aviation career. She used her own flight training and experience to motivate her students, and she enlisted the help of aviation colleagues to complement her own stories. Yukiko happily volunteered for the Washington State Chapter's scholarship committee and at local education and outreach events, along with volunteering at WAI conferences, Sally Ride Science Festivals, and on the Museum of Flight Women Fly planning committee. In addition to all WAI requirements the applicant shall be pursuing higher education toward a STEM career or continuing education STEM classes, be enrolled in an accredited institution (including two- and four-year colleges, technical institutes, and certificate programs), have experience volunteering in STEM or aviation-related events and/or WAI activities in the previous year, and submit an essay that includes detailed explanations of the applicant's career plans, goals, and volunteer experiences. The scholarship must be used within one year of receipt and will be paid directly to an accredited program/institution. Funds may be applied to tuition, books, or laboratory fees. Funds may not be used for housing, transportation, flight training, meals, or incidental expenses. STEM careers include, but are not limited to, science, engineering, air traffic controller, avionics technician, dispatch certification, aircraft mechanic, meteorologist, or educator for STEM. Applicants must be a member of Women in Aviation, International by November 1, 2014, and may apply for no more than two scholarships. Internships are not included in the two per member scholarship limit. All application materials can be submitted in the same envelope. These requirements are the minimum for all scholarships unless otherwise indicated. Some scholarships may require additional information, please read the description thoroughly to make sure you meet all requirements.
