Animal Science Scholarships

Here are some of the Animal Science scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Jay Pumphrey Animal Sciences Scholarship

$6,000 four-year scholarship Ideal candidates are current AQHA or AQHYA members from Texas with a rural farming and or ranching background; has a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average, and who wishes to pursue a major in animal science or a large animal-related degree from Tarleton State University or Texas A&M University. Member must apply during their senior year of high school. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program as specified above.

Performance Award

For those intending to major in American Sign Language Interpreting, Communication, Graphic Arts or Graphic Design, Performing Arts or Theatre, Studio Art, or Equestrian Science. Awards vary and are based on departmental evaluations. Additional criteria required.

Thoroughbred Scholarship

The Thoroughbred Scholarship is available to undergraduate students from any background wishing to pursue a career in pre-veterinary medicine (equine practice only), equine science, racetrack management, equine business management or pasture management as it pertains to horse farms, and other related fields. (Riding certification programs are not eligible.) To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must • be 24 years old or younger as of September 1 of the application year, • have at least a 2.85 cumulative GPA, • have an annual household income of less than $75,000 OR be financially independent from parents.* Essay on ONE of the following three topics (Please limit essay response to 500 words or less.): 1) What do you consider to be the single most important societal problem? Why? 2) Pick a controversial problem on college campuses and suggest a solution. 3) Describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of school. 4) Describe your most meaningful achievement(s) and how it relates to your future goals. Letter(s) of recommendation (Optional. Must be signed but not in sealed envelope); Current official transcript (Optional. But may be requested at a later date. Seal can be broken); Student Aid Report (from FAFSA) If you have NOT received your Student Aid Report, you must submit either your parent/guardian's previous year’s tax return and current year’s W2 form OR the current year’s tax return. (Additional years may be requested.); Financial aid award letter(s); (Applicable. Including other scholarship awards). Applicants apply online ONLY. Applications will be reviewed by The Race For Education Selection Committee and finalists contacted for a personal interview. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Board of Directors, and all applicants will be notified by June 1st each year. Applicants who have been legally emancipated must provide documentation indicating such. No exceptions will be considered.

Assets for Independence Program

The Race For Education scholarship applicants may be eligible for an additional $4,000 in scholarship funds from a federal matching grant that the RFE has received from the US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, which is called the Assets for Independence Program (AFI). If a student is eligible for the program, s/he must open an Individual Development Account (IDA), which is a saving account in their name at RFE's designated bank. The student must then save $500 of earned income in the IDA, which must be completed no later than the end of their junior year. Once they save the $500, RFE will deposit $2,000 in their account and $2,000 will be deposited from the AFI matching grant, for a total of $4,000 in additional funding. The Genevieve C. Geeve Scholarship Fund

Who is Eligible to apply? Graduating Maine high school seniors who are accepted in a degree program at any accredited institution of higher education. Students must major in Equestrian Science and/or related studies: performance, research or veterinary medicine. Volunteer and community service in these areas are special assets. Scholarship amount: $500 How are the scholarships awarded? Awards are based on merit and scholarship. Applications are available from the address of the sponsoring organization.
