Fellowships

Criteria: * Open to pre-doctoral or post-doctoral scholars (depending on specific fellowship) * Fellowships are open to those in ancient Near Eastern studies, including the fields of archaeology, anthropology, art history, Bible, epigraphy, historical geography, history, language, literature, philology and religion or related disciplines from Pre-history, through the early Islamic period. The research period should be continuous, without frequent trips outside the country. Residence at the Albright is required except where indicated. Founded in 1900 as the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem, AIAR provides a base for a broad range of American-led scholarly research projects in archaeological, art historical, textual and historical studies of the ancient Near East, from the prehistoric to the pre-modern periods. Located in an historic building in Jerusalem, the Albright Institute provides fellowships to scholars from pre-doctoral to post-doctoral levels. The Albright Institute maintains residential and research facilities for its fellows, including an extensive archaeological library. The Albright Institute fosters North American participation in, and provides support for, archaeological excavations and surveys; promotes working relationships with related institutions in Jerusalem and the neighboring communities, and disseminates knowledge of the ancient Near East through public meetings and publications. George A. Barton Fellowship
