Journalism Institute for Minorities Scholarships

Up to 10 full-tuition scholarships be will awarded to attend Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and show talent for writing through writing samples. Grants are for 120 credits, the amount required to graduate from Wayne State. Students may apply to the Institute up to the start of their junior year in college.

Chapter 198 - Downriver Detroit Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must be seeking an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate degree in manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial engineering, engineering technology, or industrial technology at an accredited public or private college or university in the state of Michigan. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences: First preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are a child or grandchild of a current SME Downriver Detroit Chapter No. 198 member. Second preference will be given to SME student members of student chapters that SME Downriver Detroit Chapter No. 198 sponsor. Third preference will be given to scholarship applicants who reside within the state of Michigan. Fourth preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are planning to attend a college or university located in the state of Michigan.

Chapter 1 Detroit Undergraduate Scholarship

Scholarship applicants must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a manufacturing engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or closely related degree at one of the following sponsored institutions. Wayne State University, Student Chapter S004 Lawrence Technological University, Student Chapter S011 University of Detroit-Mercy, Student Chapter S081 Focus: Hope, Center for Advanced Technologies, Student Chapter S279 Henry Ford Community College, Student Chapter S331 Macomb Community College, Student Chapter S071 University of Michigan - Dearborn, Student Chapter S326 Preference will be given to a member in good standing of their respective SME Student Chapter or SME-Detroit Chapter One - The Founding Chapter. Preference will be given to applicants involved in SME Student Chapter activities at their respective institution. The applicant can be a full- or part-time student. Applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 Scale. Applicants must demonstrate good character and leadership. Need is not a consideration in awarding scholarships except when two or more applicants have equal qualifications.

Scholarship applicants must be a high school graduating senior or an undergraduate student enrolled in a manufacturing engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or closely related degree at one of the following sponsored institutions.
