Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

Scholarship Description

Post-doctoral research fellowships support individuals with a doctorate who are interested in academic careers involving basic or clinical research in ophthalmology, vision or related sciences.  Clinical research fellows are required to spend at least 50 percent of their time on their research project, while basic researchers are expected to devote full time.  One-year post-doctoral fellowships are awarded commencing July 1 to September 1.  A shorter tenure will be considered in some instances.  Stipends range from $5,000 to $14,000 per annum.  Recipients may supplement FFS post-doctoral fellowships with institutional funds, providing the combined total does not exceed $28,000 per annum.  Fringe benefits for post-doctoral fellows are not funded by FFS.  If, at the time of filing, the applicant does not have a doctorate, a cover letter must be submitted with the application advising that the doctorate will be conferred by the designated commencement date of the award.  Should unanticipated delays occur in obtaining the doctorate, FFS reserves the right to withdraw the award.  Post-doctoral fellowships are not awarded to residents or persons who are receiving fellowships from other sources.  Applications usually will not be considered from individuals who have had two or more years of post-doctoral training.
