Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund

Scholarship Description

An applicant must:  1. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.  2. Be a person of Spanish culture who was born in, or whose natural parent was born in, either Mexico or Spain, or a Hispanic country of the Caribbean, Central America or South America.  3. Have earned a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate college-level courses.  4. Meet Florida’s general eligibility requirements for receipt of state aid, including residency in this state for purposes other than education for a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the first day of class of the first term of the academic year for which the funds are requested.  Note: residency for purpose of student financial assistance is determined by the institution the student attends.  5. Enroll at an eligible Florida public or private college or university for a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours of undergraduate study or 9 credit hours of graduate study.  6. Not owe a repayment of a grant under any state or federal grant or scholarship program.  7. Not be in default on any federal Title IV or state student loan program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made.  8. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrate sufficient financial need to be eligible to receive the total annual award amount.  Renewals:  A renewal applicant must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and have earned the equivalent of 12 credit hours for undergraduate study or 9 credit hours for graduate study for each term an award was received during the academic year.  Eligibility for renewal is determined at the end of the second semester or third quarter of each academic year.  Credit hours earned the previous summer can be counted toward the total number of credit hours required for renewal.  To demonstrate financial need, the FAFSA must be submitted each year in time to be processed by the U.S. Department of Education by May 15.
