Federal Librarians Cicely Phippen Marks Scholarship

Scholarship Description

The Federal Librarians Cicely Phippen Marks Scholarship is given to a library school student who has an interest in working in a Federal library. The student will receive a scholarship award of $1,500. Students who are currently enrolled in any ALA-accredited library school, who do not already have an ALA accredited degree, and who have expressed an interest in some aspect of Federal librarianship are eligible. Applicants must be full or part-time students at the time of application. Students nominate themselves for this award and a letter of reference from a Federal librarian, a library school professor, etc. may be emailed to the Awards Committee in support of an application.

Applicants for Federal Librarians Cicely Phippen Marks Scholarships must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident; must attend an ALA accredited master’s program; must not have completed more than 12 semester hours or one-third of the required semester hours towards MLS/MLIS/MIS prior to June 1 of the year awarded; and must submit a complete application.

Factors considered in making these awards include:

academic excellence;
leadership; and
evidence of commitment to a career in librarianship.
Achievement in these areas may best be demonstrated by statements indicating the nature of library and other experience, by professional references, and by the personal statement included in the online application.
