Governor's Education Grant for Unemployed Adults

Scholarship Description

The Governor’s Education Grant for Unemployed Adults is funded by the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) and administered by the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO). The grant is designed to assist unemployed adult students seeking to acquire new or enhanced skills that will permit them to re-enter the labor market.                     

When to complete the Governor’s Education Grant for Unemployed Adults Application
Complete this application only if all of the following apply to you:
·      You are 18 or older.
·      You are a high school graduate or GED recipient.
·      You are a resident of Delaware and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
·      You are enrolled or are planning to enroll at a participating school (see website for list of participating schools)
o   part-time in college classes with a courseload of 11 credits or less (Graduate-level coursework is not eligible), or
o   in a non-credit adult education class.
·      You are not receiving any other scholarships or grants for your educational expenses. (Employee-paid tuition benefits may be used with grants without penalty.)
·      You are registered with the Department of Labor – Division of Employment and Training (DET) (See website for list of Dept of Labor locations )
·      You have been recommended for the Governor’s Grant program by a DET Career Counselor, and
·      You have been deemed ineligible for the Department of Labor’s Dislocated Worker Training Program.
Deadlines:
Although applications may be submitted through the close of the term or conclusion of the training program for which they are intended, due to limited funding, it is recommended that applications be submitted prior to the start of the term/program. Grants are nonrenewable. You must submit a new application each term.
