Benjamin Franklin Scholar Award

Scholarship Description

The Pennsylvania Society is please to announce the seventh annual Benjamin Franklin Scholar Award. This is a writing competition open to all Pennsylvania public school students in good standings in their junior year of high school. Students submit an original essay of not more than 750 words discussing the modern day relevance of a selected quotation by Benjamin Franklin.

The 2013-2014 Benjamin Franklin Scholar Award offers a first place prize of $3,000, a second place prize of $2,000 and a third place prize of $1,000. Last year’s award winners represented New Hope-Solebury High School, Mifflinburg Area High School, and Wissahickon Senior High School.

The Benjamin Franklin Scholar Award honors one of our Nation’s Founding Fathers who continued to have a remarkable impact on our lives today.

Essays are reviewed by judges named by the Pennsylvania Association of School Counselors, the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, and the Pennsylvania School Board Association. Winners are acknowledged at the Society’s annual gathering in December and are honored in person at The Pennsylvania Society Annual Meeting.
