Scholarship Description
The Hobbs Award was established in 2004 after the death of John W. F. Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs was a lifelong lover of golf anda member of the Long Cove Club, The Kittansett Club, Mid-Ocean Club and Winchester Country Club. He was also very activewith the United States Senior Golf Association and Chairman of their annual tournament at Kittansett. His late father, John W. F. Hobbs served on the MGA Executive Committee with Francis Ouimet in 1931. Mr. Hobbs was Vice President in charge of Real Estate Trusts for New England Merchants Bank until his retirement in 1986 and then head of the Hampton Beach ImprovementCompany in New Hampshire. The Hobbs Scholarship is for an Ouimet Scholar from Kittansett who is a resident of Marion or a surrounding community.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
