Detective LaVern S. Brann Scholarship

Scholarship Description

The Fund was established for the purpose of providing scholarships to individuals who are considered a minority by race or representation in the police officer profession. The scholarship will be available for graduates or graduating seniors from the Battle Creek area who are seeking educational opportunities in the Kellogg Community College Police Academy in order to become a police officer. The Battle Creek area is defined as residents or schools providing diplomas or other graduating equivalency in the townships of Pennfield, Emmett, Bedford and the Cities of Springfield and Battle Creek. Students should demonstrate potential to succeed in the police academy program. Financial need, character, and volunteer involvement, leadership and commitment to community will also be considered. For the purpose of this scholarship minority will be defined as African American, Hispanic, Female or other populations which are under-represented in the police officer profession.
