Scholarship Description
Since 2000 the Dayton Chapter of PFLAG has offered two (2) $1,000 scholarships each year. One scholarship is for a GLBT student and one is for what we term a straight ally. Dayton Ohio was the first or at least one of the first chapters to give a straight ally scholarship. The application is available on the Dayton webpage (www.pflagdayton.org) beginning in January each year. We mail approximately 75 applications with letters to local schools, churches, and organizations. The committee evaluates the applications and supporting documentation, then selects the finalists who are given a face to face interview. Following the interviews we select the winners who’s names are presented to the board at our April board meeting. The board votes on these individuals and the scholarships are presented at our regular PFLAG meeting held the second Tuesday of May.
