Scholarship Description
The J. Ward Sleichter and Frances F. Sleichter Memorial Scholarship Fund of The Franklin County Foundation, a regional component of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, awards scholarships to deserving students in the Shippensburg, Pennsylvania area as defined by the Shippensburg School District in Cumberlandand Franklin Counties. The scholarship award shall be for a four-year term, which will be renewed annually so long as the student remains in a four-year college or university and maintains a B average, or equivalent. The recipient must be a full time student and the advisory panel shall consider any other factors that could be consistent with and not in opposition to the other criteria set forth. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide aid for needy and deserving students who otherwise would not have the financial means to obtain a four-year college education. Mrs. Sleichter did not intend this scholarship to go to the student with the highest GPA orstellar academic performance, but rather to the student with average grades who demonstrates motivation, character, ability and potential and would not be able to attend a four-year college without the support of this scholarship. This scholarship shall be for an undergraduate degree and not an advanced degree.Selection criteria:Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:1. Students must reside in the area defined by the Shippensburg Area School District, or its successor.2. Students must plan to attend a four-year college or university.3.
