Scholarship and Fellowship Program

Scholarship Description

Graduate Fellowships:  1. You should be enrolled in graduate studies leading to an M.S. and/or Ph.D. at the time the fellowship becomes effective.  2. You should also be a person with an above average interest in research together with demonstrated scientific aptitude.  3. Your school of enrollment can be any educational institution that is conducting fundamental investigations for the advancement of food science/technology.  4. Your particular research program must be in the area of food science/technology, or in the case of IFT Food Packaging Division fellowship, in the area of food packaging.  Research in such disciplines as genetics, horticulture, nutrition, microbiology, biochemistry, engineering, chemistry, etc., is not eligible unless it is directly related to your research program in food science/technology.  5. You become ineligible for further payments when you achieve the degree (or degrees) for which the fellowship was awarded, or if you drop or substantially change your planned research program during the tenure of the fellowship.  It is your responsibility and your department head’s to notify the Executive Vice President of the Institute within 30 days when such condition exists.  Junior/Senior Scholarships:  1. You must be a sophomore or junior pursuing an approved program in food science or food technology in an educational institution.  2. sophomore students planning to transfer to an approved program to complete their degree must do so by the effective date of the scholarship.  3. If you withdraw from school or transfer to another major during the tenure of your scholarship you become ineligible for further payment.  It is your responsibility and your department head’s to notify the Executive Vice President of the Institute within 30 days when such condition exists.  Freshman/Sophomore Scholarships:  1. If you are applying for a freshman scholarship you must be a high school senior and expect to graduate by the effective date of the scholarship, or a previous graduate entering college for the first time, and you must be enrolled in an approved program in food science/technology.  2. If you are applying for a sophomore scholarship you must be a freshman who is or will be enrolled in an approved program at the time the scholarship becomes effective.  You also have to have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA (A=4.0) for the first term of study and have recommendation of both the department head and a faculty member familiar with your work.
