Gustavus E. Archie Grant

Scholarship Description

For graduate students in the earth sciences whose research has application to the search for and development of petroleum and energy-minerals resources, and to related environmental geology issues.  Grants will be based on merit and, in part, on the financial needs of the applicant.  Factors weighed in selection of successful applicants include: qualifications of the applicant as indicated by past performance, originality and imagination of the proposed project, support by the department in which the work is being done, and perceived significance of the project to science and industry.  The program focuses on support of qualified candidates for masters and equivalent degrees.  Qualified doctoral candidates with expenses beyond the usual scope of funding by other agencies are also encouraged to apply.

The Gustavus E. Archie Memorial International Grant is awarded to two deserving graduate students enrolled in a school outside the U.S., for study of petrophysics and/or development geology of an area outside the U.S., through the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Grants-in-Aid program. It is endowed by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation, through generous contributions from Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. Sneider, Shell Oil Company and numerous other friends and associates.
