The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the distinguished career of Dr. Archie P. McDonald by providing a financial award to worthy students who are history majors, with preference to those specializing in Texas history, especially East Texas history.
The scholarship is to be awarded annually from the earnings of the endowment, calculated from a total return performance. Total return performance is defined as interest, dividends, and realized/unrealized gains.
Level: Undergraduate and graduate students, attending full time as defined by the university. Exceptions can be made for last semester seniors who need fewer hours to complete requirements for graduation.
Schools: All universities and colleges located in East Texas, defined as those schools east of IH 35 and extending southeasterly from Austin to Houston.
GPA: 3.0 overall and 3.2 in History
Other: Preference may be given to students in Texas history, especially East Texas history. Need may be considered, if all things are equal between candidates.
