This scholarship honors Arthur J. Packard, who never waited for the lodging industry to ask him to volunteer his time and boundless energy. A third-generation hotelier, his work for AH&LA extended over 30 years—one of the longest on record. The Packard Competition provides scholarships to the most outstanding student of lodging management and to two runners-up through an annual competition among Foundation affiliated four-year programs.
Each university nominates its best qualified student to compete in the national competition. Minimum eligibility criteria for nominees are:
Full-time enrollment for the upcoming fall and spring semesters
Undergraduate hospitality management major
Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 or higher
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
First-place winner receives a $5,000 scholarship
Second-place receives $3,000
Third-place receives $2,000
Packard Scholarships are School Nominated which means students are nominated by their respective schools. If you’re attending a Foundation-affiliated four-year school, request nomination through AH&LEF’s Designated Contact, or contact Kelsey Allagood at 202-289-3139 / firstname.lastname@example.org or Michelle Poinelli at 202-289-3181 / email@example.com for more information.
Currently 76 universities and colleges are affiliated with AH&LEF and qualify as a four-year school. See website for complete list of eligible Packard nomination schools.
