Why I Write Scholarship Slam

Scholarship Description

The “Why I Write” Scholarship Slam encourages young poets to express what poetry means to them and how they were introduced to this written form. The winner will be chosen at random after the Power Poetry team performs quality checks (i.e. ensuring poems are not plagiarized and that applicants have only submitted one poem each) and will be awarded $1,000 towards his/her college education. However if we receive more than 20,000 submissions, we will increase the award value to $2,000.

The basic requirements are:
- Students must be 25 years of age or under and be U.S. residents (50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico)
- Submissions can be written or multimedia
- Applicants must sign up as users on www.powerpoetry.org
- Submissions will be accepted until August 15th, 2013.

The winner will be announced around mid-September.
