Jagannathan Scholarships

Scholarship Description

Established by industrialist N.S. Jagannathan, the scholarships were first awarded for the 1996-97 academic year. The Jagannathan Scholarship program is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.EligibilityApplicant must meet the following eligibility requirements   * Be a graduating senior planning to enroll as college freshmen in a full-time degree program at one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina   * Be a resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes   * Have demonstrated academic achievement (as indicated by class rank, cumulative GPA, and SAT scores), leadership, and financial needSpecial consideration is given to students whose parents are employees of TIEPET, Universal Fibers and related companies.ValueThe maximum award for is $3,500. Award cannot exceed demonstrated financial need. Scholarship may be renewed for three years or six semesters if enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program, or four years or eight semesters if enrolled in a five-year undergraduate program. Recipient must have continued financial need, maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and must maintain good citizenship at an eligible institution.Application ProcedureApplicant must complete an application and be nominated by one of the following: TIEPET, Universal Fibers, and related companies; the financial aid office of one of the constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina; or by his/her high school counselor. The application will be available online beginning December 1. Applicant must take the College Board SAT and file the College Scholarship Service ‘s PROFILE.The deadline for completing the online application is February 9. Students who do not have documented financial need will not be considered for the scholarship. Students will be notified in May of their candidacy status.
