Scholarship Student Activists Scholarship Prrogram, Posted August 28, 2007

Sponsor: American Civil Liberties Union of Utah

Type of Award: Scholarships

Amount of Award: $500, $1,000, $5,000

Application Deadline: November 7, 2007

Application Requirements/Description:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah is offering scholarships for the first year of college to graduating high school seniors who have taken a stand for civil liberties. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the first place winner, and $500 to second and third places winners.

All recipients will be nominated for a $5,000 national scholarship, which will be awarded to 15 students from across the country. Those students will then become part of a group of student activists whose talents and passion will be fostered by the ACLU national office, and who will be invited to participate in ongoing activities.

Scholarship Chicago College Bound Scholarship  for High School Juniors

Ford Salute to Education Scholarships

Sponsor: Ford Motor Company and South Florida Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers

Type of Award: Scholarships

Amount of Award: 220 - $1,000 scholarships; total $220,000.00

Application Requirements/Description:

Salute to Education is one of the largest private scholarship programs in S. Florida. Since inception in 1994, STE has granted over 2.57 million in scholarships to more than 2,700 graduating high school seniors.

The student must attend a private/public and/or accredited high school in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties. The student must be a U.S. citizen.

The student can apply in 1 of 10 categories and answer a series of questions.

Private Scholarships for Kansas Residents

The J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Trust has been established to provide assistance to students from the state of Kansas. The scholarships provide for tuition, room and board for selected students who have been legal residents of Kansas for ten (10) years prior to their admission.

The scholarships will be awarded without regard to means, race, religion, or gender to selected full-time students attending the University of Notre Dame Law School. If there are not enough qualifying candidates, scholarships may be provided to students attending a qualifying law school in Kansas, or a University of Notre Dame undergraduate program, provided the students have resided in Kansas for at least ten (10) years prior to admission. (Proof of residence is required.)

The Lady Oya Scholars Program

Sponsor: The Lady Oya Foundation, Inc.

Type of Award: Scholarships for legal residents of the state of North Carolina

Amount of Award:  2 awards of $1000 each

Application Requirements/Description:

.Description -The Lady Oya Scholars Program is sponsored by The Lady Oya Foundation, Inc., a newly formed nonprofit corporation designed to assist domestic violence survivors and their families. The main objective of The LOSP is to aid such survivors in the development of an educational plan that will allow them to secure employment and the financial security necessary for ultimate economic independence and self-sufficiency. Support is available for full- or part-time students who are citizens or permanent legal residents of the state of North Carolina attending vocational school, community college, or four-year degree programs, and who also meet the following criteria: domestic violence survivors sponsored by a nonprofit domestic violence service provider that has worked with the applicant for a minimum of two months, demonstrate a critical need for financial assistance, and are officially accepted into an accredited course of study at a United States institution. No minimum GPA, SAT/ACT, or GED scores are required, but a minimum 2.5 GP A must be maintained by recipients in order for awards to be renewable.

Never Give Up Scholarship

1.) The Mary J. Szczepanski “Never Give Up” Scholarship Foundation, born in 2000, awards seven $500.00 college scholarships to seniors at Catholic Central, Kenowa Hills, Covenant Christian, and Comstock Park High Schools in the Grand Rapids, MI area for their creative fund-raising efforts for Multiple Sclerosis.

2.) All Michigan High School seniors are eligible for this scholarship. The senior in the state who raises the most funds for Multiple Sclerosis will receive a $500.00 college scholarship with an engraved plaque.

EMERGING YOUNG ARTIST AWARDS 2007

Description of Award

The Emerging Young Artist Awards seeks to identify and support talented young artists who intend to pursue a career in the arts. The awards provide up to $5,000 per year for four years (maximum award is $20,000) in support of full-time enrollment in a college, university or professional arts program, participation in a professional artistic company, or other professional education program approved by the California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE).

Categories of Award

An individual may apply in any one of the four categories listed below:

Dance - including all forms of modern, jazz, and classical dance

Music - including vocal and instrumental music

Theatre - including all forms of theatrical performance

Visual Arts - including all static media such as painting, sculpture, etc.

Please note: Film, video, photography and animation are not eligible (animation stills are acceptable)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant is a high school senior or recent high school graduate who has deferred enrollment in a college, university or professional training program in the arts.

Applicant is a resident of California.

Applicant demonstrates a serious interest in pursuing a career in dance, music, theatre or visual arts.
