To cover one year’s fees for a Muslim student already accepted by the Faculty of Oriental Studies to read for an M.St or M.Phil in Islamic Art and Archaeology at the University of Oxford. Renewal for the second year of the M.Phil may be granted to candidates who perform well in the qualifying examination, but the grant may not be extended to cover doctoral studies.
Applicants for scholarships and academic research must have completed at least a B.A. degree. Students must be established in their course of study, and in a position to provide an assessment from a current academic supervisor. Those applying for post-doctoral awards must have completed a doctoral degree.
The majority of the funds available are zakat monies, and as such can only be granted to Muslim applicants, to enable them to carry out, in person, particular tasks, projects or courses of study. There are also funds that are available to assist non-Muslim scholars and projects administered by non-Muslim organizations. In the case of corporate projects, such as archaeological excavations, exhibitions and conferences, both zakat and non-zakat funds can be used for different purposes.
