Mining Engineering Scholarships

Three $1,250 scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students of accredited 4-year colleges and universities. The “Virginia Heinlein Memorial Scholarship” is dedicated to a female candidate majoring in engineering, math, or biological or physical sciences. The other two scholarships may be awarded to either a male or female, and add “Science Fiction as literature” as an eligible field of study.

The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. NASF's educational foundation remains committed to helping undergraduate and graduate students interested in studying chemical engineering, material science or engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, environmental engineering or chemistry. Scholarships to college juniors, seniors and graduate students are offered in the amount of $1,500. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities. Is there a minimum GPA requirement? Yes, for undergraduate applicant, GPA should be 3.0 or above; for graduate applicant, GPA should be 3.3 or above.

The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars) is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education. Selected scholarship recipients will receive USD $2,500 each to contribute toward tuition or school fees at an accredited post-secondary institution and will be selected based on criteria relating to the program's three pillars: Perseverance, Aspiration, and Community. To be eligible, students must be seeking an undergraduate degree in one of the following categories: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business/entrepreneurship. The application, which requires a letter of recommendation and an academic transcript, opens Wednesday March 8th. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 12 at noon Eastern Standard Time. The contest is open to both undergraduate and graduate student entries. A first prize of $1,000 ($750 cash + $250 travel expenses), and a second prize of $500 ($250 cash + $250 travel expenses) will be awarded in each division. Both North American and international students are eligible for this contest; however, all applicants must be TMS student members. Students not currently holding memberships may enclose with their paper entry a completed membership application, with dues payment, to become eligible. Papers must not have been published prior to the deadline of May 1st. Only one paper contest entry per student is acceptable.

One $5,000 cash award scholarship will be made to an undergraduate student majoring in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering or minerals processing/extraction programs. In addition, a travel stipend of up to $1000 is also available for the recipient to attend the TMS Annual Meeting, to formally receive the scholarship. The recipient of the TMS Presidential Scholarship will be chosen by a specially-appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Committee of TMS. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation Both North American and international students are eligible for this scholarship; however, all applicants must be TMS student members. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. The recipients of these scholarships will be chosen by a specially appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Commitee and the International Symposium on Superalloys Organizing Committee. A $2,000 stipend will be awarded to each of the recipients at the TMS Fall Conference. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum/career in superalloys. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation All applicants must be TMS student members. Three $4,000 cash award scholarships are available to undergraduate students majoring in the study of nonferrous metallurgy. The recipients of the TMS/LMD Scholarships will be chosen by a specially appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Committee. The scholarship recipients will be known as LMD Scholars. A $4,000 stipend will be awarded to each recipient, preferably at the site of the TMS Annual Meeing during the Light Metals Division Luncheon. Additionally, the scholarship recipients will be given the opportunity of selecting uo tp $300 in LMD-sponsored conference proceedings or textbooks to be donated to the recipient's college or university in his/her name and up to $400 in books for the award recipient. Up to $600 for travel expenses to the TMS Annual Meeting to accept the award will be given to each recipient. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants in their junior or senior year, enrolled full time in a non-ferrous metallurgy program, and to individuals who have participated in a relevant industrial co-op program. Student Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen enrolled in the engineering program and who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and potential. Terms: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is renewable for the sophomore year contingent on continued enrollment in engineering and satisfactory performance in the first year.

Student Eligibility: Applicant must be an incoming freshman or transfer student admitted directly into an engineering program at UDM. Selection will be based on academic and leadership achievement. Terms: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded each year. Scholarship may be renewed for one additional year if a 3.0 GPA is maintained and student remains in the engineering program.
