Library Sciences Scholarships

Here are some of the Library Sciences scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Garrett Scholarship

The Garrett Scholarship of $1,000 is available to a Texas resident who concentrates his or her studies in children's, young adult or school librarianship. The applicant must be a Texas resident who attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program and has been accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program. This scholarship is awarded in alternate years.

Van Dusen/Brady Scholarship

The Van Dusen Scholarship of $1,000 is available to a Texas resident who is pursuing graduate studies leading to a career as an elementary school or children's librarian. The applicant must be a Texas resident who has attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program and has been accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program. This scholarship is awarded in alternate years.

Library Degree for Law School Graduates

Awarded to a law school graduate working towards a degree in an accredited library school. Preference is given to AALL members, but scholarships are not restricted to members. Preference in selection is given to persons with meaningful law library experience. Evidence of financial need must be submitted.

Library School Graduates Attending Law School

Awarded to a library school graduate working toward a degree in an accredited law school, who has meaningful law library experience and has no more than 36 semester (54 quarter) credit hours remaining before qualifying for the law degree. Preference given to members of AALL, but scholarships are not restricted to members. Evidence of financial need must be submitted.

Library Degree for Non-Law School Graduates

Awarded to a college graduate with meaningful law library experience who is a degree candidate in an accredited library school. Preference is given to members of AALL, but scholarships are not restricted to members. Preference is given to applicants working for degrees with emphasis on courses in law librarianship. Evidence of financial need must be submitted.

Library School Graduates Seeking a Non-Law Degree

Awarded to library school graduates who are degree candidates in an area, other than law, which will be beneficial to the development of a professional career in law librarianship. Scholarship restricted to members of AALL. Evidence of financial need must be submitted.

Law Librarians in Continuing Education Courses

Awarded to law librarians with a degree from an accredited library or law school who are registrants in continuing education courses related to law librarianship.

George A. Strait Minority Stipend

$1,500 to $3,500 awarded to college graduates with law library experience who are members of a minority group as defined by current U.S. government guidelines and are degree candidates in accredited library or law schools. Preference will be given to individuals with previous service to, or interest in, law libarianship. Applicants must show evidence of financial need.

Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowship

The Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowship at the Hagley Museum and Library is designed for graduate students who have completed all course work for the doctoral degree and are conducting research on their dissertation. We invite applications from Ph.D. candidates whose research on important historical questions would benefit from use of Hagley's research collections. Applications should demonstrate superior intellectual quality, present a persuasive methodology for the project, and show that there are substantial research materials at Hagley pertinent to the dissertation.

Spectrum Scholarship

In order to receive a TLA Spectrum scholarship, the following criteria must be met: 1. Be an ALA Spectrum Scholar 2. Be enrolled in an ALA recognized master's degree program in library and information studies at a Texas university. 3. Agree to work in a Texas library for two year following completion of degree requirements for the master's program. 4. Be a TLA member.

WLA Graduate Study Scholarships - Maryan E. Reynolds Scholarships

The Washington Library Association awards one or more Maryan E. Reynolds Scholarships annually, to WLA members who are enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS degree program and have completed at least one semester or quarter. The scholarships are up to $6,000 per recipient. Applicants are evaluated based on demonstrated potential for leadership in the profession and commitment to libraries and library service. Scholarship Criteria These criteria will be used by the Scholarship Committee to evaluate your application: Current membership in the Washington Library Association. Washington State residency. Satisfactory completion of at least one semester or quarter in an ALA-accredited program leading to the Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. Demonstration of potential for leadership in the profession and commitment to libraries and library service. Current or previous involvement with WLA, or plan to be active in WLA during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded (e.g., serve as intern to Alki editorial committee, contributor to Alki, student liaison to WLA Board, active in WLA interest group, involvement with WLA or WALE conference programs).

Academic Scholarship

Who May Apply: * Anyone pursuing graduate-level coursework in school librarianship for initial library certification, for a degree program, or for professional growth. * Funds from the scholarship may be applied to expenses associated with a full semester (either summer or long sessions) of college credit, including, but not limited to, tuition, housing, or travel to course site. Applications will be evaluated by the following criteria: 1. Demonstrates commitment to school librarianship. 2. Demonstrates good written communication skills. 3. Financial situation of applicant will be considered. 4. Applicant's chance of continued involvement with TLA and TASL.
