International Relations Scholarships

ISF supports Islamic organizations and mosques by planning and managing joint scholarships. ISF is honored to host the ISF-IIOC scholarship of the Islamic Institute of Orange County (IIOC). The ISF-IIOC Scholarship program is only open to members and individuals affiliated with this center. Description and Eligibility: ISF accepts online applications once a year starting in December for a period of three months. Each Eligible Applicant Must Be: Muslim and active member of the Muslim Community; Attending an accredited university in the U.S.; Majoring in an ISF supported field of study; Maintaining a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average; A Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.; An undergraduate (junior/senior) or of graduate standing.

ISF is pleased to expand its activities to the Greater Boston Region through the ISF-Syed Ibrahim Memorial Scholarship initiated by the Syed family in memory of Syed Ibrahim. This scholarship is open to local residents of the Greater Boston region who upon graduation will remain or return to the region to play a prominent role in their local community through their activism and leadership, developing visionary ideas for the future of their community. In addition, ISF encourages its scholarship recipients to fulfill a volunteer service obligation through relevant internship programs within one year of receiving a scholarship under the direct supervision of ISF and its regional Strategic Partner the Islamic Society Boston Cultural Center, ISBCC. The late Peter W. Jasin, a member and generous supporter of AFIO from the early 1980s, who also served as an officer of one of our chapters, established upon his 2009 death a national AFIO scholarship endowment fund to enhance AFIO's educational mission to encourage career development and study in the fields of counterterrorism, homeland security, intelligence, counterintelligence and intelligence-related disciplines. In furtherance of those interests, the Jasin Endowment provides awards of $4,000 each to six applicants. Selected scholarship recipients must be enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student undertaking a course of study at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education, and must show a history of taking courses in intelligence, foreign affairs, and/or national security studies towards the goal of serving in the U.S. Intelligence Community. Applicants should indicate whether they are applying for a graduate or undergraduate award. For Undergraduates scholarships, applicants must be entering their sophomore or junior year by the summer. For Graduate scholarships, applications must be submitted no earlier than your senior undergraduate year and no later than your second year of graduate studies. Evaluation criteria include merit, character, serious of academic commitment, and relevance of your studies to national security interests and career ambitions. Applications are evaluated by a special AFIO committee. Decisions are final. Tuition grants will be paid directly to the Bursar/Registrar of the University concerned –under NO circumstances will payments be made directly to awardees. All applicants must be U.S. citizens. No Scholarship will be awarded to students attending foreign universities or schools not US-accredited, nor to law, med, or business schools [foreign or domestic]; however, students intending to study in schools of engineering, science, technology and/or show extensive foreign language mastery and/or area knowledge in Arabic, Dari, Farsi, German, Hausa and other sub-Saharan African languages, Hebrew, Indonesian, Korean, Kurdish, Mandarin, Pashto, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu are strongly encouraged to apply. Colleges need to be regionally accredited.

Mr. Albano F. Ponte is a vital part of AFIO's "legion of merit," through active participation and time, talent and funds donated to AFIO programs and development. His generous financial donations make this scholarship possible. Eligibility: Students who are going to graduate school, focusing on International Relations and/or Intelligence, and who are either AFIO members, or children (grandchildren) of AFIO members or of serving Intelligence personnel. Non-AFIO members will be considered, so please apply if that is the only aspect an applicant lacks. Award amount is $1,000. The Colonel Sully H. de Fontaine award is in honor of Col. de Fontaine's lifetime of service to the country. Eligibility: Students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree with the intent of becoming employed within the U.S. Intelligence Community. Vito W. Paladino, LTC., U.S. Army (Retired) -- A friend of Sully de Fontaine -- established this scholarship in 2010, the first year an award was made. Award continues. *Candidates should, in addition to fitting the profiles immediately above, provide the following application materials (in lieu of materials listed elsewhere in this announcement): a cover letter, Resume, a letter of recommendation, and a photograph. The cover letter should describe, in as much detail as possible,any relevant prior experience as well as the future plans of the applicant to which this grant would be applied. For Undergraduates scholarships, applicants must be entering their sophomore or junior year by the summer. Evaluation criteria include merit, character, serious of academic commitment, and relevance of your studies to national security interests and career ambitions. Applications are evaluated by a special AFIO committee. Decisions are final.

Any American, 18 years of age or older, who has demonstrated a keen and sincere interest in Norwegian heritage and/or any Norwegian, 18 years of age or older, who has demonstrated an interest in American heritage, and who now desires to further the study of their heritages at a recognized educational institution (arts, crafts, literature, history, music, folklore, etc.) is eligible to apply for a scholarship. HOW ARE THE WINNERS SELECTED? Final selection of the scholarship winners will be made by a scholarship committee appointed by the President of the Sons of Norway Foundation. Notification of the award will be made within 10 weeks of deadline. Award decisions are based upon the following criteria. CRITERIA • Essay • Academic potential/grade transcripts (ACT/SAT) • Benefit to Sons of Norway and wider Norwegian/American community • Involvement in school and community activities • Two letters of recommendation • Financial need HOW DO I APPLY? While filling in the online form, the applicant will be asked to write an essay, setting forth in 500 words or less how this cross-cultural study will enhance your current field of study and/or career choices and how you will share this experience with Sons of Norway or wider audiences. Applicants should also state how their course of study will benefit their community and be in accord with the goals and objectives of the Sons of Norway Foundation: • Promote Improved International Relationships • Provide People-to-People Enrichment Programs • Promote Culture Exchange • Promote Humanitarian Causes Two letters of recommendation, describing the character and abilities of the applicant, must be emailed from the original source to scholarship@sofn.com by the application deadline. Finally, applicants must submit an “official copy” of their latest high school or college grade transcript. HOW MUCH IS THE AWARD? The Sons of Norway Foundation Scholarship Committee will determine each year the number of scholarships to be awarded. The range is typically $1,000-$1,500. A student may be awarded a maximum of two scholarships within a five-year period.

The WIIT Charitable Trust scholarship program is designed to provide financial assistance to further educational objectives of women who are interested in international development, international relations, international trade, international economics, or international business.  Amount: 2 scholarships of $1500 each (one for an undergraduate female student and one for a graduate female student) for the Summer or Fall Semester and the Spring Semester. Each recipient will also receive one year free membership in WIIT or OWIT.  Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria. No exceptions will be considered.  Be currently enrolled or accepted at an accredited U.S. university or college, either full-time or part- time. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.  Demonstrated interest in international development, international relations, international trade, international economics, or international business;  And be a woman.  Note: Applications from relatives of the directors and officers of the Association of Women in International Trade, Inc. and members of the WIIT Charitable Trust Committee and the selection committee are not eligible for consideration.  Selection Criteria: Awards will be based on quality of the assigned essay. Furthermore, the selection committee will pay close attention to the candidate’s interest in international trade issues. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, or religion. WIIT reserves the right to revise, suspend, or discontinue this program without notice. Further, essays may be published in the WIIT Newsletter if they are of publishable quality.  Entry Period: Completed applications, essays and transcripts, or letter of admission (proof of acceptance to a college or university) must be received no later than March 15 if applying for assistance for the Summer or Fall and July 15 if applying for assistance for Spring.
